Four gallons in a five gallon pail, top always screwed on and kept inside. Keep and use in the future, or recycle?

Your best bet would probably be to recycle and buy some fresh fluid. The additives break down within around 5 years after manufacturing. It will work, just not worth it in the long run.

If it has never been opened and you do decide to use it I would shake it up real well. The additives will settle to the bottom. I've had luck asking my local hardware store to put all sorts of things on their paint can shaker.

What would you be using it in? New HST, no. Old gear, yes.
