Tree shear

I called my local dealer, but he couldn't find out because Sidney Attachments is closed today. :(

Ok, thanks! This is interesting. I have a Blue Diamond tree puller that I’ve lifted back wheels slightly off the ground with before.

The hydraulic lift might be a big help.

For the small trees I have used my pallet forks. dig around tree breaking the roots stick them in under the root ball and curl back and they pop right out. I have looked at a shear, for the reason of, what do you do with the root ball? shear will shear flush to the ground and you can leave there to rot. 6" diameter you can run through chipper, can't do that with a root ball on.

I have ignored things and now I am up to 10" diameter. I need to shear in a row so need the two knife shear. Shear that has one knife will push the tree to the side.

I like the idea of a tree puller or tree shear, but every time I've found that pushing the trees over and carrying them away with the grapple seems to work about as good as anything. I'd like to try a puller though, just, well, because I think it would be fun. I would only use it on a 3 point hitch though. Seems to me that having a grapple on the front, and shear/puller on the rear, would be a very nice setup. With just a tree shear on the front, you can't grapple and carry numerous trees that you've just pulled. I just don't see the advantage there?

I've used my puller on 3pt with grapple on FEL. Very productive, especially in scattered trees. Saves a lot of time getting them to the pile.

I got to use the tree shear today and I found it works great on my B26TLB Kubota as it handles the frozen ground with a little slime on it very well and it was able to move in and out of the trees I wanted save. With 7gpm to my loader 3 valve and about 2300 psi I was very impressed about 3-5 seconds to cut a larger tree and no way to tear it up with this machine.
Largest tree I could get it around was about 14" cottonwood and took and extra bite to get it but it did it. On the larger tree's I would cut them several times to make it easier to remove them with my grapple. On small groups of trees I could cut 3 or 4 at once. I attached a few photos but have not figured out how to do video. Has to be selectively cut we planted them in rows 15-20 yrs ago and didn't keep up and keep cottonwood from coming in. We looked at using a mulching head but don't have a high flow machine. We have a really heavy landpride brush mower but most of this is larger than it wanted to handle.
Didn't know if anyone had used one or been around one.
I owned my own company doing excavation and dirt work at one point and still have to many machines, but prefer using right tool for the job.

Why don't you just rent one if you have operating experience? They are pricey at $3800 a week, but would be tax deductible and if only used every few years...

Rental makes sense, but only if a person has the skill set to operate one, and can put the hours on them. Typically a person runs out of time before the hours actually are up on the rental unit. That has been my experience.
