It is a 18' 14k equipment hauler with 5' spring assist ramps
Brakes on all wheels, choice on adjustable 2-5/16 or pintel ring
We could also derate the weight if need be.
I would bring it down to Wendell NC for $3,500

Remember, with trailer brakes, it's one more thing to keep up. I think you are fine without them, unless you are towing heavily.

Good luck.

i'll take "ignorant statement of the day" for $1000, alex.

Well, I just checked this thread and I see I am being blasted.

I guess I need to do what most people do and run down and buy me a 3/4 ton truck with a diesel motor. Yep, that is exactly what I need to pull my trailer the three or four miles every year or two and maybe the occassional lawn-mower or a few square bales. That is exactly what I need so that I will fit in at the mall with all the other urban cowboys.

Give me a break. The tractor weighs 2600 lbs. I do not have loaded tires. I do not know exactly what the boxblade/FEL weighs but I am well within my vehicles capability. I don't really see what the weight of my vehicle has to do with it either in this case, the vehicle braking capability is the most important factor. I guess those new 1/2 tons they are advertising with an 11,000 # towing capacity are the ticket.

I would never do anything that I felt was unsafe or overload a vehicle. If you think that a modern 1/2 PICK-UP TRUCK is not worthy of doing what it was designed to do then I just don't know what else to say.
BTW: I'm glad you can lecture me on safety seeing as how you put an unmanned vehicle in gear to pull a tractor out of the mud. Are you going to give classes on how to operate unmanned machinery?

First of all you ought to lighten up a bit and not jump to conclusions.
You sure got a whole lot of information out of one sentence. Well first of all I never said you had the wrong vehicle or anything you said, just read what I said not what your reading into it.....sounds like my ex-wife.
Also where am I "lecturing" you about safety? Obviously you don't know how fast a jeep can go at idle in 4lo, if the chain were to have come loose the jeep would not have gone far.

Okay- I don't think you are being blasted, I think some of us may have been carried away, but they just trying to add their own experience. Like YOU said before- don't do anything that doesn't feel safe. For example, I trailer my BX with loader and backhoe on a 16fter with loaded tires, all equipment, accessories, etc behind my little S10 blazer. I feel it pulls and stops ok on flat roads. I added WD and sway bar just because it pulls and stops better with it. I figure I have close to 3k lbs plus weight of trailer. In fact I am pretty sure I "might" be over the limit a few times with it as for the truck limit, but it handled just fine with good driving habits and top maintained equipment, and whole lotta of common sense of respect.

I believe you will be fine, in fact pulling better then my S10:eek: . you have a wider stance, longer wheelbase then the S10 so you "shouldn't" have sway issues with your L. Adding a WD bars will do a world of difference with the equipment you have and want to use.

Go with a 10,000 lb gvw trailer at a minimum at an 18 foot length. This will accomidate your tractor with a FEL, and a large implement or two. Don't limit yourself. With a 10,000 lb GVW trailer you won't be limited down the road.

hi folks,
Well I am thinking about buying a trailer for the 3400..
and I really don't expect to pull it much..
But the coming year may see the construction of another house and I don't think I am going to leave the tractor there....

Looking around I found :
Buy & Sell New & Used Trailers 6 FT 4 IN X 16 UTILITY TRAILER WITH TUBING RAMP GATE at TrailerShopper.com

Buy & Sell New & Used Trailers CarryOn Equipment 7X16 Tandem Axle Black at TrailerShopper.com

pulling truck is a 2010 Tacoma,4x4 LB, automatic with tow package-
Rating is 6500 towing and I have a brake controller...

Should I not consider doing this?

or will a small 15 foot of so trailer be ok?

my L3400 has a loader, with loaded rear tires..
and a "light" boxblade 350 or so...

thoughts???

J

I read your question then read all the replies, well intended and otherwise. I wasn't going to respond until I saw the ridiculous advice (and then justification of that advice) that you won't need brakes. You have a controller installed so at least you know better. If a trailer has a 3500 pound axle, or more than one axle you need brakes. "Law of common sense"
You have a special need of keeping the trailer light and at the same time have enough load capacity for your tractor and equipment. In your case an 18 foot dual 3500 pound axle trailer would be ideal. AN equipment trailer, not the light duty landscape like your first picture. Load it to where you have about 10% of the total weight on the hitch to prevent sway. In theory you could have 7000 on the axles and another 750 on the hitch giving you a total of 7750 total weight. This of course exceeds the truck's capacity, but at least confirms a 7000 pound trailer will do the job. I had a 16 foot trailer for my L2800 and decided it was too short when I wanted to carry my rotary cutter. I had a 12k, 20 footer built, but it's too heavy for a lot of half ton trucks. I guarantee if I had another one built it would be an 18 foot 7000 GAWR, no more , no less.
All the best.
