Has anyone added clevis hitches to the front axle to help with attaching tow chains instead of wrapping them around the axle and scratching the paint to pieces? I bought a 1/2" (too big) and 3/8" (too small). I'm thinking about ordering some 7/16" for the front axle. They are rated 3000lbs each. If I'm using 2 of them, would that be ok just to secure the front of the tractor? I would be using 4 anchor points total.

I don't think that small hole on the axle would have enough strength for use as a tie down point. Putting a clevis in there then tightening a chain through it on a 45* angle would probably snap those cast holes right off.
I had room toward the front of my frame to bolt on D-rings for tie down points like these.

Or I have short straps I could put around the axles and hook them to the chains. Something like these.

I would use axle straps to D rings on trailer with shackles to hold. Then back tractor up. And secure rear end with come a longs.

Have any pictures? I'd like to see that setup. Thanks!

The straps I use around car/truck rear axles then connect my chains. That way the chains don't crush the brake lines when tightened. I have the D-rings on my tractor front frame and a twisted clevis on the drawbar. What did you want pics of? I also have an assortment of small j-hooks that hook into slots in car/truck frames. I tow quite an assortment of vehicles on my trailer and need to be prepared by having a way to secure them.

I wouldn't do this, your asking for big trouble. With that setup there's a very good chance of breaking the axle housing.

The d-rings on the front frame.

The d-rings on the front frame.

I originally had them bolted to the brush guard but after seeing a few bent and broken guards I moved them to the frame. Each ring is rated for 5K lbs. Bolts and nuts are metric equivalent of grade 8.

I used some discharge hose to cover the first 2' of each end of my chain.
