I think it'll be the best way to go. 270 pound weight is unheard of on a grapple of this quality, whether 48" or 54" so we don't think it's a big deal. Ted always likes customer input and TBN is a good place to get that!!

The single lid grapple would be my choice if I can ever afford one. I don't think 54" would be an issue over the 48" and I can think of a few situations it would be preferable. The low weight is nice for our smaller B series. looking forward to seeing it.

I also posted this on another thread, but i'm putting it here for more exposure and opinions.
Ted is working on the design of the single lid grapple. He is running into an issue with the JD hitch on a 48" because of where it needs to attach on the grapple. His question to you guys is: Would you be fine with a lighter, single lid 54" or is that additional 6 inches going to be a problem? His thinking is that the lighter weight is the key and the single lid will also bring the cost down. This would be 270 pounds and still keep a high grade of steel for durability. In reality, a 48" is not going to be any cheaper to build and will cause a bit of a headache in engineering.
Your opinions are appreciated.

This would depend on whether the grapple is designed for a CUT or SCUT tractor. For a SCUT it will be too large and too heavy, but for a CUT it may be ok.

Well, I promised some pics of my new grapple. I am using the tractor for something else today so I can't show any action pics. So, I decided some delivery photos would work for starters. Thus, I did one in the trucking terminal, 2 being loaded on my trailer and one at home. This weekend I have use for it. but not today...

The 48" single tine Wicked Grapple will be available soon, but i'm not sure when they'll get to the rake style grapple. We have been extremely busy and haven't had the time to work on it. April 2013 was our busiest month ever!

I finally have some time to post some pictures of my grapple that I had for a couple months.

Only thing I would ask you to change is to use threaded grease fittings and not the press in type.
When I first greased it right off of the crate one of the fittings was loose. I tried to re-seat with a hammer and hollow punch but it wont stay.

Hope everyone likes my grader blade. Works great on nice loose dry material.

I was loading some brush and stumps with my wicked grapple. I had a stump that in the grapple and did not have a real good grip on it. It started to slide out but the teeth dug into and kept it from falling out of the grapple.

I think press fit grease zerks were invented by Mr. Phillips, inventor of the Phillips head screw. They both work great until you lean on them. Good revision.

Picked up my 60" Wicked Grapple a month ago. It has been very wet here with all of the rain this last month, so I haven't used it much. I uprooted a small tree and moved some brush. It did the job easily. The 54" hydraulic hose length was perfect for the JD110. Really like the weight and quality. The weight is about the same as my JD fork and 72" bucket attachment. Thanks for the perfect fit!

I actually was considering the 54". They are all rated for up to 50HP and the 110 is 43HP. I didn't see where a wider grapple would buy me anything. I am going to use it in the woods and I wanted to be able to get the front end into tight places. Like I said it's weight has the same feel as the fork and 72" bucket attachment. The 110 can lift 2300lb with this grapple weight. This grapple looks strong enough to handle it. Only time will tell when I start using it more.

I think you will find it will work just fine for you. I'm still working out how wide to go for my L45. 72" would "cover" the wheels and clear a path wide enough for the machine. My machine has similar lifting capacity to yours, so no worries about having the power to handle it.

Post some pics in use and some reviews once you really start playing with it.
