I had the exact same experience - well regarded custom builder. Only I lived an hour away..was on site as much as I could be, at one point every day basically acting as project manager as you describe. Glad it's over.

I must have lucked out on my builder. There were a couple of small things, but by and large, my project was a piece of cake.

Every doctor I've know are late for everything in their lives. It's ingrained. If they say 10 am figure 10:15 if everything goes well. 10:30 if they get a call or the dog needs something
I'm not talking about my wife but I could be.
Some of our top docs also docs in the military and they were on time and cool under pressure.

Fewer and fewer with that type of training now..

Our chief of anesthesia was a real character…

He ignored draft notices as a student…

One day he had a visit in class… Uncle Sam wanted to talk with him.

He was not picked up but they convinced him he would be serving.

Basically, they could take him now if he refused or he could finish his degree and report as a officer MD… and he did.

He said no one had quite explained it too him as throughly before.

Stationed in Germany and said it made him what he is today… but that was 20 years ago when he shared his story…

Surveyors . . .

Working on a small development of 15 building lots. (Just selling land, not building houses.) Used a local surveyor for probably four or five years, spent well over $10K with them (boundary survey, wetlands survey, topo survey, etc.) Got along well, too.

Company sold to a big company "up nawth" - all of a sudden it is purchase orders, payment portals, obviously they only want to work with the big guys (Lennar, Pulte, etc.) AND they want money in front because "we don't know you, you're a new customer".

I've been dealing with surveys and surveyors for over 40 years, mortgage broker, investor, etc., and NOBODY has EVER asked me for money in front for a survey. Do they think I'm going to take the land and roll it up in the middle of the night and leave town?

So now I'm looking for a local "mom n pop" surveyor, and they are telling me they'd have to start from scratch because nobody is willing to accept the "liability" from someone else's survey work.

This is BS - there have been many times someone has called a "new" surveyor on a property that has been surveyed time and time again previously. No biggie, do the job, take the money, game over. I have one parcel I've owned since 1972 which has probably had six or eight surveys since then, all by different surveyors - and no problems.

Grrr.

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida

My wife worked for a lawyer for several years and he went to the doctor and was kept waiting over two hours. He refused to pay the bill. Told the doctor his time was just as important as the doctors. Apparently the doctor got the message because he was never kept waiting like that again.
My doctor (actually PA) isn't the problem. It's her support staff. I had an appointment in June. As always I arrived 5 minutes early, to find they had "double-booked." I sat down and closed my eyes as I had forgotten to grab a book. I heard my doppelganger arrive. Time went by and I heard someone check in for the next appointment slot. Finally they called in my doppelganger which I thought was wrong as I was there first but nothing I could do about it. Finally, 25 minutes after my appointment someone came out and told us it would be at least an hour before she could see us. I said I would wait as I needed to see her. The guy with the appointment after mine said he'd reschedule at which point they said "we can get you in to see another doctor now."

At thst point I got POed and told them to give me another appointment, as I thought it was BS.

Yes… the one size fits all directing you to online and portals has cost me some very good vendors…

When they do a job they expect to get paid and not building a profile and answer dozens of questions and when all is well go online in a 48 hour window to grab their payment…

I would have never sat there 25 minutes unless I heard lots of sirens and assumed there was some big incident going on somewhere

Mine is usually a minimum of 1 hour wait, appointments are usually a 2 week wait. You don't dare walk out as you'll never get in.

My grandmother always prim and proper never going out without gloves, etc...

I took her to her eye appointment in 1997 and we waited after checking in... grandma said I will give him 15 minutes and she did...

Then she walk to reception to inquire and was told Doctor was very busy and Grandma said so am I.

Grandma went in as a patient was leaving, grabbed an exam room right past staff pleas and said this will do and she is next.

Dr. came in and asked what's going on and my Grandmother dressed him down pointing to her watch saying respect is a two way street...

I have things I've been dealing with and it's time to do something about them... plus it took me several tries to find someone I like. (Last PA told me that heart palpations are just "panic attacks.")
Round 2 is next week, if it happens again I'll go elsewhere.

Unfortunately that's something that's not an option in Canada. If you get a doctor here you keep him regardless of how you're treated. Here in NS as of June there's 160K people without a Dr. If you don't have one, It's the clinic with anywhere up to a 4+ hour wait and that's if you get there a couple hours before they open and stand in line.
