Hello folks, been awhile. Been real hot the last few days. Hope everyone is chugging along well.

I have a friend that is DPD, one of his good friends patrol cars took rounds during that shooting, he actually had to hide behind a column, as he was also taking fire as he ran for cover. This one of my fears while in LE, you never know when the worls will turn upside down and DPD did an outstanding job dealing with this nut job IMO.

You're sure right, Dennis. I've had two sprinklers running since 3:30 a.m. today. I think all my life I've hated July and August in Texas and Oklahoma.

Ahhhh...........Oklahoma in July. When I was little, we usually had my birthday on vacation in Higgins, Texas or Shattuck Oklahoma. Grandpa and Dad's middle brother lived in Higgins and Dad's baby brother lived in Shattuck. While in high school, my cousin and I would hit the tennis (one) court in Shattuck in 102 degree sunshine.:D It was all dry heat and I loved it, after being raised in the shadow of all of Lou's humidity!
hugs, Brandi

Brandi, tennis was always my favorite sport to play. I could never claim to be good at it, but I sure enjoyed it. When I was 14 to 16 years old, I played at lot in Marlow, OK. But the last time I played was at the FBI National Academy, Quantico, VA, in 1986. Of course, I didn't LIKE the heat, but it didn't bother me nearly as much in my younger days.

Yep...............don't think I could play in 102 degree heat now.

55 degrees this a.m. and it got up to 83 degrees.

Oh ........ Wait a minute! We're in Napa, Cali. this week. Never mind and carry on!

Funny you mentioned heat when you where young Bird, I can't recall any "real" heat when I was young either. Remember the summers of 80-81? I remember it as warm, but not miserable like I would find it now.

I was reading some old memoirs of settler history in Wise county, as far as heat, they only mention that work was started before daybreak and ended around noon. I couldn't imagine just having shade back then, but then you wouldn't be spoiled with AC.

Remember how 'light' you were back when 'young' and compare that to how 'heavy' you are probably now?

I could stand the heat lots better if I was about 20 lbs 'lighter'. And I'm only about 185 right now. Weight makes a difference in a lot of ways.

Ford Sill, Lawton Ok, 1987, late July, it was averaging 108 everyday on the rifle range. You learned real quick to keep your black M16 in the shadow of your body. They made us take off our t-shirts and dip them in a trash can filled with ice water, then put them back on....wow what a wake up! Then, around 6 pm every evening, we got the tornado sirens going off. You could almost set your watch to them daily.

No fair, that's cheating. Be sure to fill your pockets with cool air and bring it back.

Got back yesterday to the harsh reality of August in Texas. Whoo!

If any of y'all plant oats in the fall, when do you start discing? The reason I ask is because I was planning on discing in September but have a week off next week. Thought about lightly discing then and then maybe going over it again in a month. It's only ten acres and right now mostly goatweed and ragweed so the cows don't go over there much. Should I wait a month and do it on a weekend or proceed now?

Now you're getting personal . . . . but unfortunately correct. I could stand the heat better when I was 50 pounds lighter, around 185, or maybe it was just that I was 25 years younger.
