Texas in August is like living in a Pizza Oven. The heat is really starting to get to me. OK.....how hot is it?

Hot as a June Bride in a feather bed.

The chickens are laying hard boiled eggs.

Hot enough to roast marshmallows on the dash of my pickup truck.

LOL, I'm so scared to burn, it better be flooding and the greenest grass you've ever seen. I have used both tractors to knock down grass fires that my burn pile started.

The first time, I used to 4310 with the 5 foot shredder. The grass had been cut to about 2-3 inches days earlier, but it still caught fire. I just lowered the shredder to scalp mode and pounded the fire into the ground. Yes, I was a bit worried for the tractor driving across 20' swaths of grass.

The last few times, I just drive the 5420 MFWD down into the water and scoop up about a cu yard of water and since the bucket has 5/8" holes along the bottom to bolt on a tooth bar, it leaks it out conveniently putting out the grass fire. Usually 2 or 3 loads have done the trick. Yes, I was a bit worried. I am smarter now. (I hope)

We have 4 very large burn piles but, even though we in Colorado County, are not yet under a burn ban I'm not lighting up anything until we get significant rain. Don't need to make the local newspaper.

Where are the rain dancers?

Colorado and Fayette Counties went to burn bans on 8/10. Had first rain, this afternoon, since July 1st. Only 1/4" but, better than nothing.

Let the Rain Dancin' continue.

I think Montgomery County's ban went into affect on the 10th also. Had two idiot neighbors burning leaves this weekend. Couldn't trace the smoke to the yard that was burning, or I would have reported them.

Who is doing the rain dancing?
I've been busy wiring and plumbing a storage building into a tamale house.

We got a brief shower yesterday, but no rain in the gauge. Nothing today. Saw it coming up from the south on radar, but the cells broke up before they got here. Hoping something happens this week.

Brandi- Where is Farm Girl when you need her? I approved of her "Rain Dance".

They finally put the Burn Ban on here in Wood County.....none to late. I've already got more brush than I can burn all winter, but we'll just keep adding to the piles.

I'm going to go to the pasture first thing this morning(while it's cool) and throw down some "Cherokee Rain Dance Moves" and a little prayer to see if we can get something happenin'. They are giving us a good chance for rain mid-week, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Charlie

Charlie,
I lost her email and phone number last Oct. when my phone and computer died within a few days of each other. Every once in a while, I get a posting alert from Green Tractor Talk (GNN). I went on there and searched for her and sent her a PM to email me. She never emailed me. She is very active on GNN and I am baffled why she went "dark". Last I heard she got that plane owner/pilot for a boyfriend and she told me she was going to Oshkosh with him and not me. So I was shut out of her life. Why????????? I can only guess. I think her user name here on TBN has been deleted.
So go ahead and get a new rain dancer.
hugs, Brandi

Brandi- Well I hope she's healthy and happy and doing well. I'll pick up my end of the slack in the rain dance dept. although I don't think it's quite the production that Farm Girl would have. So, Brandi, turn on a little Classic R & R and join in. Maybe we can get this done.

I have a place out in the woods where someone planted 8 pine trees(huge now) in a large circle and one in the middle that we call 9 Pines where I do my Rain Dancing(I think my Cherokee Grandparents would approve). I'll go out a little after sunup this morning and see what we can do. Everyone fill free to join in...............we do need some rain and we're desperate. I have been known to bring rain, but I take no responsibility for the amount. So watch out.

Denton County's burn ban went into effect yesterday. I'm surprised it wasn't sooner.

Well since no rain no hay to bale,so been able to get 3 rounds of 18 in since Saturday. But the grass growing probably more important than my golf game but sure is a lot funnier than baling...
