Texas Spring/Summer Thread

My daughter, Grand daughter, and I were going to Rodeo Houston's Livestock show today. We made it down to OST and 288. We stop always stop there at the quickie mart to make a pit stop before parking and hiking to the tram and riding over to Reliant Center where the livestock show is. But today we called it on the count of rain, heavy rain. I was really wanting to get down there for the Ag Mechanics Project showing. I love the projects these students build and pick up new ideas.

Instead, we came back to Boot Barn in Conroe and I bought my Grand daughter new boots (she outgrew the last pair) and (yes, she wanted it and wouldn't let it go) a pink hat. The boots are pink....................but have a John Deere logo on it. I paid $50 for the two logos and $4.99 for the pink boots. She wore the boots up until bed time. I think I hit a grand slam with the boots and hat!
My daughter loves the boots, as the bottoms are identical to her pink Fat Baby boots!

That's hard to do when you can't stop her to take the logos off, much less off her feet. She'll have to wear pants over the logo, which is in the tops.

I was going to go Houston Livestock show also but wife called it off cause didn't won't to make the trip in rain. Had tickets see Brad Paisley,glad it wasn't the Blake Shelton or my son would have been really upset.

Question for any gardeners. Gonna build some raised beds for vegetable garden. Thinking of using 2 x 10's ten feet long. Can cut in half to make 5' width. Everything I've seen on Internet the guess are 4' wide at most. So is 5' too wide? Suggestions appreciated. And where is Dennis?

4' wide or you can't' reach the middle without stepping in it. Use good organic compost. I used 8" x8" x 12" solid cement blocks for my border.
The best garden I ever had was when I connected a solar panel facing due east to a pump at the pond to water each raised bed. I only came up on weekends and each 4X8 garden produced 300 tomatoes.

Has anyone got twelve inches on rain in the last 9 days.. if so raise your hand while treading water.. it is wet.. can't remember it being this wet,, but I couldn't remember it being that dry in the summer of 2013,, but also I can't remember what I had for supper either,,

Well, She operated the Mahindra yesterday while I drove. She can raise the bucket and almost blow the horn. Here is a photo.........ignore the Fluffy person in the seat.............

Don's right. At the least....you would be leaning way over and balancing on one hand.

I know this has been beat to death on here but I have a question? I currently bought a New Holland and while the tractor is in the shop I asked them go ahead and change the hyd.fluid so its NH Ambra oil,my question is I usually run Kubotas Ashland oil in my other tractors but since going to be using same equipment is there any reason to just not go ahead and use the NH in my Kubotas now this time since its going to mix some anyways now? I am probably thinking to much on it just wonted get some opinions....

Robby I don't even know if its worth it,everything I have that's hydraulic has what come in it and Kubota mix. Baler/rake/cutter/grapple and batwing mower and I use my brothers Mahindra or he borrows something. Guess the major thing is keep all them changed regular

So I'm out riding on a sunny afternoon. Heading through an area with a tree line on one side. There's a stick in road where the sun is coming through the trees. As I get within thirty feet or so, that stick coiled up, then struck out a bit as I went by. Holy Crap. First rattler of the spring. Glad I avoid riding over sticks. That would be an entirely different kind of puncture.

The snakes are out in full force and are hungry. On the Good Morning thread I posted a coral and a hognose snake today. I still have not seen a copperhead but Whipper has been barking a lot at night and they usually come out later.

My dog and cat are night hunters and so far this week have left by the door a gopher, three mice and two small pigs. I took the pigs to a back field and when I was about 20 feet away I started seeing shadows, I looked up and 5 buzzards were already circling.

Lost a baby calf this morning. Noticed it laying beside mom but don't think it ever got up. Went to town and bought a new bottle and colostrum. Tried getting some in her but she just went limp and died. Heck of a way to start the day.

We have a Community Park with a fishing pond and trails through the woods where I frequently take our little Chihuahua for a walk. Lots of turtles in that pond, but I hadn't seen one in at least a couple of months until the last two days; dozens of heads poking up out of the water and turtles out on the bank enjoying the sun. And it's known that there are copperheads in that park, so I guess it's time to keep a watch for them.
