Happy birthday to your wife, Kyle.

No rain here, in forever, but still lots of work to do. Wish something wet would fall from the sky because I still need to finish filling my hay barn with square bales.

Thanks everyone says my wifey!

Fillets came out great, broiled in the oven. Used some Tony Chacheres on them.
Tony Chachere's

Ended up making twice baked potatoes casserole style. Bought a bag of large baking potatoes but they were green skinned. Ticked me off. I'm officially re-naming Brookshire Bros to "Broke yours". They have the worst produce and store brands. I usually shop at the cheaper large stores in College Station for our foodstuffs. I buy the taxable goods at our local Wally world to keep our sales taxes local.

Made a "souped up" spice cake, adding pumpkin, cinnamon, and a box of instant vanilla. Cream cheese icing. (Don't tell Don on me.) It was what the wife requested. It turned out wonderful.

All in all, a great weekend.

Mike, have you repaired you lighting struck gate opener. Cost? With all the lighting around here I know it's probably on a matter of time before I'll have to replace mine also. I just added more peppermint oil cotton balls to mine which seems to be keeping the mice out and chewing the wires.

The motor control board was $315 and the exit wand was $250. I also lost that fancy cell phone controller at $500. The rain has kinda held me off on repairs but hope to get after it this week. All my new parts are in. Hoping the motor itself is OK...won't know til I can get something working to try it. I'm going to add ground rods at all three items. The lightning hit the exit wand then went up the wire and burned out the motor control. The cell phone was a separate hit. I'll add ground rods for both the motor and the cell phone and the wand. It took out the satellite receiver, big TV in the LR and a small one in the cabin. Insurance man said his info is that we took 13 hits within a mile. I put all matter of pest / insect control under / in the motor so haven't had any problem in that respect. I don't think my clutch is working...I had to undo the chain to get the gate open. Something else to investigate.

If the round black knob pulls out and it still does not put the gate in a free rolling neutral, lighting might have froze the motor.

edit: On second thought the clutch release might not be releasing and the motor might be ok, but I cannot figure out how the manual release would not work.

Wow the weather was perfect yesterday........except for no rain. Went with fishing with a friend from Church to his brothers lake. Simple style fishing, no rods and reels, just cane poles, bobber, and some minnows. Boy we had a great time. We kept about 25 good size Crappie, released the little ones. Lost count on the Strippers we caught and released(no clean). The Bass were fun and a good struggle with the cane poles. We did use a little High-Tech with and electric knife to clean and filet the Crappie. With the cool weather coming in we'll probably hit it again later in the week. We ended up with a big bowl of fillets.

56* this morning.

I think that perfect day has finally hit here today. 67˚ crisp clear energetic air. Today will be a 2 - Z day with both mowers going to cut the extended "wild" yard that gets mowed only once a year. It is an extra buffer zone in case of a grass fire.

What time does Fall begin today in Texas? We will need to switch to the Texas Fall/Winter thread.

It became Fall a little after 2100 last night.

txdon-- good news is the motor is fine. bad news = the receiver for the button transmitter is not. (little clear box on top of operator) Tried to re-do it and am not getting a green light when I push on P1. $60 for a new one. Once I get it - I should be back online. I'll be adding 2 lightning rods & ground rods. Still can't get the clutch to work....

Yes, we're having some fine Fall weather . . . except we wish it would rain. I've been running sprinklers to water the lawn a bit yesterday and today. I've been seeing where weathermen are predicting an El Nino is going to give us a wet and cool Fall and Winter. I wonder if they really believe that, or if it's just wishful thinking.:D

They were saying that around here until mid August-then they backed off the El Nino/Rain prediction. Seems the pattern has not developed in the Pacific as strongly as they thought.
