OK, last one, because I am running out of my data plan for this billing cycle, but wanted everyone to see that I got to hang around with the neatest folks when I was in Oshkosh. I know that I was with the best looking guys anyway, and can say that they were definitely awesome pilots!

Oh, and pacerron, do "peanut fares" still exist? I had a vision that those were in the 70s.

Not as such, but that was the beginning of deregulation and discount airline marketing, that grew into other techniques such as frequent flyer miles, etc.
Since you wore a Texas International cap to Oshkosh and have so much desire for the RV-6 with a similar paint, I wonder if you were a pilot for
TIA/Continental during part of your career?
Without digging back in the thread, I recall you saying something about being a pilot for over 30 years and getting your license while in college.
That would be the mid 80's which is when TIA became Continental.

If your ISP charges you for uploads, you could save a little by straightening and cropping your scans before uploading. Your last image was 2336 x 1690 pixels, most of which was white uncropped space. 383 kb.
Just cropping away the white reduces it to 860 x 660 pixels and 140 kb.
A savings of 243 kb. Not a lot for today's broadband but it becomes quite cumulative if you upload many pictures.
Almost everyone, particularly us old folks, enjoy looking at pictures of years past, so upload more when you can.

Brandi, I think I'd need a heck of a lot of pressure to get enough flow from my hoses. Maybe I could do it with a RC boat and a GI Joe action toy.:D

pacerron; I have a 4G connect card. No dsl or other where I am now. And, I am MUCH better with an old taildragger than I am with modern technology. So, scannig and moving the pics to where I can find then to post is doing pretty good, for me! Thanks for cleaning it up and the info though. While I am waiting to begin a new billing cycle, I'll try to go through more pics, and see what I have that could be of interest.

*That being said, if any of the rest of you get tired of my stuff, feel free to say so. I won't be offended. But I'll try to add to pics, etc., as long as there is interest.*

How long have you known Homer? You knew that was *his* rv6, so I "assume" you were in Texas hanging out with some of the pilots. I would have guessed TIA for you too. Not everyone would recognize that paint scheme, after all of these years!

As far as TIA/CAL, I was part of that "family" until 1983, however I was not flying for them. I flew for the old FAL, until PeopleExpress came in and messed that up too, and it became part of CAL. CH.11 was not a good thing for ANYONE, except for possibly a few select shareholders and the likes of Lorenzo. Lifetime ago, but was a huge part of me switching careers for a living. I have done some "flying and approaches" in a Boeing 737 simulator, to stay as current as possible, but it isn't an every 6 months check. I am still comfortable that I could get the aircraft on course, and on the ground, should I ever need to, and do it pretty well too! I am pretty confident I wouldn't land on the nosegear!

Funny, I can still give you the engine out procedure for the DC-3, and the CV-600/640, off the top of my head, even in my sleep! But the new stuff on i-pads, etc., for the Jeppesen's would be the hard part of getting back "up to speed". Of course, if I ever had to take over a commercial flight, I could always just ask for vectors!

I was sure thinking that you had a Piper Super Cruiser, at one time. Maybe I have you confused with someone else. :)

The only simulator I ever "flew" was one time in an F86 at Perrin AFB out of Sherman in 1958.

For the pilots on this thread. This was sent to me by a very dear friend. Pacerron, I think you will like it, especially.

Once the wings go on, they never come off whether they can be seen or not. It fuses to the soul through adversity, fear and adrenaline, and no one who has ever worn them with pride, integrity and guts can ever sleep through the 'call of the wild' that wafts through bedroom windows in the deep of the night.
When a good flyer leaves the 'job' and retires, many are jealous, some are pleased and yet others, who may have already retired, wonder. We wonder if he knows what he is leaving behind, because we already know. We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times. We know in the world of flying, there is a fellowship which lasts long after the flight suits are hung up in the back of the closet. We know even if he throws them away, they will be on him with every step and breath that remains in his life. We also know how the very bearing of the man speaks of what he was and in his heart still is.
Because we flew, we envy no man on earth.

For those who might be interested in what FG19 has been describing and the timeline for such this piece puts it all together, including names she has mentioned and the good and bad results of deregulation.:confused3:

Yesterday, I posted a photo of my 5+ gal of blackeyed peas. We shelled (and shelled, and shelled) them last night and ended up with 4-1/2 gallons of shelled peas. That's a lot of tasty delicious eating for this winter. . .or even now.:) It seems the math says we have about 50% shelled peas from unshelled ones.

YUM! I'll bet you have good luck next year too! :D

Do you blanch and freeze them or can them?

We are going to plant some next spring.
Charlie's soup was delicious, even with store bought dried ones.
We added cut up tomatoes for more flavor.

Ron, we blanch and freeze them. I think it's safer and they taste more like fresh when thawed and cooked. My wife normally cubes ham and chops a small onion in them when cooking. My mother used to flavor them with bacon grease and strips of bacon, but that might be frowned on by your heart doctor.:D I've never used tomatoes, but everything is better with tomatoes, so why not? My steamed yellow squash with onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes is delicious. I steam it with teriyaki and wine, then add a little soy sauce. It's also good with Parmesan sprinkled on it. I would add cornbread or cornbread muffins with either of these, but cornbread may not be that popular north of the Mason-Dixon line. When I was a kid, I'd whine if we didn't have cornbread and some kind of potatoes with beans or peas. I thought you were supposed to have potatoes at every meal except breakfast. When I discovered hash browns for breakfast, I thought I was in heaven.

A coworker answered for an interviewer's questions for best job and worst job. He said his best job was CAL before Lorenzo and his worst job was CAL after Lorenzo. It was sad to watch TI's brand disaapear, just like some other legacy carriers.

I loved Pam Am, but when I was down babysitting a DC-9 in Miami, I couldn't believe they flew 11 different types of aircraft in and out of MIA. Way too many types of planes to have spare parts for all the different models. Just think, each type needs a spare engine (plus millions of $$$$ in other parts) sitting around in case of an engine failure so the plane can fly later in the day or the next day to make revenue. No spare engine can mean the plane sits a day or two while an engine is airlifted in on a freighter or trucked in. Now, multiply that by all the major stops Pan-Am had.

Thanks Jim,
I was raised on bacon and everything fried in bacon grease. We still eat it all the time, but don't fry in it unless bacon is part of the recipe..which adds a lot of flavor.

If you have any jalapeno or sweet banana peppers left; try this.

6 peppers, 4 oz. of soft cream cheese, 2 T shredded cheddar, 6 bacon strips halved, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 T chili powder.

Cut the peppers in half lengthwise. Beat the cream cheese and cheddar till blended. Spoon into pepper halves.
Wrap bacon around each pepper half. Combine the brown sugar and chili and roll the peppers in it to coat.
Put aluminum foil on a pizza pan and put the peppers on it. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until the Bacon is done.

The combination of sweet and hot does a dance in your mouth.

Ohhh! That sounds GOOD! Gonna have to try that one. Thanks for sharing, pacerron!

Ron, I'll make that recipe with both jalapenos and banana peppers. Then, maybe I can get some help with eating them. Everyone in the house but me avoids anything hot. I get into trouble all the time because I tell people something is not hot, and then they go around fanning their mouths after taking a bite.:D

Jim- I get in trouble with my MIL for just a little black pepper in any recipe. Myself, I cover most everything with lots of BP just to start. There's almost not such thing as too much pepper or garlic for me.

What do you think of the Museum at Addison?
If they send a large aircraft to Oshcosh next year maybe F19 can get a few of you a hop or at least a "peanut fare"

What all is at the Museum at Addison? I started A&P School at Love Field with Braniff. While there, I always heard talk of the Addison Airport, but never went there.
