Definitely the last person some of the "nightlife" walking around here wants to PO. Gawd I wish I could retire and go help Jim with all those water hoses:laughing:

Just what I need, a hose-boy with an attitude.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Jim, that's what you would have if you ran the "hose array" business like some of these nuts I deal with!! But if I was a "hose boy" for you, I'd refer all complaints to the **** owner!:D

Dennis, that would make TWO of us with attitude. I got my refrigerator repair parts in this morning and decided to install them. Just to be sure, I checked the continuity on the defrost heater. . . O P E N ! ! ! Sheesh, I have enough attitude for the whole county right now. I was feelin' pretty good until then because I had a big bowl of Parker County peaches from last year with vanilla yogurt mixed in. YUM! It's only a little over a month until the Parker County Peach Festival. YEA!:cool2::licking:

jinman; Peaches won't be abundant this year, due to the late freeze and frosts, this year. Should be some of the later ones available for the festival, but I'm betting prices will be high. I hope to stop by the Farmer's Market tomorrow, and get mor of an idea what we are up against from the wicked early Spring Weather we had.

I usually put about a bushel's worth in the freezer, but might not get to do that this year. :(

We normally wait until after the peach festival and go to Hutton Peach Farm out west of Weatherford on Hwy 180 at Greenwood Cutoff Road. They have a good selection of several grades of peaches and we normally buy a bushel of the middle grade ones and sometimes a big black diamond watermelon too. Last year, our local fruit stand just south of Bowie only had peaches they would have to pay me to take. This year, I think the freezes got all their peaches. Sometimes in Weatherford, the light freezes will thin the crop so that the peaches that are produced are spectacular. It's always a roll of the dice, but Parker County peaches are worth the drive in my opinion.

He is the one saying the crop would be slim, this year. I don't mind seconds. Might not be as pretty, but taste the same! If you're just eating them, or cutting them to freeze, not a big deal, IMO.

A lot of years ago, when I worked downtown Dallas, I stopped now and then at the Farmers Market; used to get some great deals on "seconds" or "culls".

It seems to me that peaches come in three sizes: Premium grade, medium grade, and knotty. The little ones seem to have the same size of seed as the big ones, so when you peel them there's only about a bite or two left.:( The top two grades are just fine since both have lots of sweet flesh. Mediums also seem to be better tasting to me. Big is not necessarily better.

A couple of years ago, Wise County had a bumper crop of peaches. We went into our local fruit stand and she had very ripe peaches she had culled for about $2.50 a peck. I bought all I could get and cut and bagged them for freezing the same day with plenty of Fruit Fresh to help them stay fresh. There were a few bruised spots, but overall, it was a huge bargain. I felt guilty and paid her $5 per peck. Last year, my wife bought a half-bushel of the sorriest peaches known to man from the same place and paid $20 for them. I could not believe she paid for those. I think she felt sorry for the woman who had so many peaches that she couldn't sell. The lady who runs the fruit stand and her husband are getting on in age and it seems harder each year for them. Several of their orchards have just died off from inattention.

There's a new fruit and veggie stand in Bowie across from our best feed & seed store. The young lady who runs that stand used to sell out of her SUV on the feed store parking lot. Guess where she gets her peaches? Yep, Parker County. The only problem is that she has to charge more for them. In truth, it might be cheaper than the gas to go to Weatherford, but I like going to Hutton's, so I just make the trip each year. One year, I found a young couple selling peaches on the side of the road up from Hutton's. It was the end of the day and they had two half bushels left. I asked the guy what his price was and he said $30 for a half-bushel, but if I'd take both, he'd let me have them for $20 each. It was late and hot. He wanted to close up and go home. That year, I didn't make it to Hutton's.:D
