The NWS had been predicting a low of 39 for Denton, but then late yesterday they changed it to 42. And now they say it's actually 37. And on my patio, it shows to be 35. So at least my wife's potted plants should be OK.

Woo The temp by the house is 42˚ but away from the pavers by the garden it's 38˚ -close-. I bet a lot of people north of here got a tinge of frost.

As I was going out to feed livestock this morning, I thought there was frost on the ground. Kept saying to myself, it wasn't supposed to get THAT cold. My tomatoes were unprotected too. All I can do is cross fingers.

   / Texas Spring/Summer Thread #944
My tomato plants are still at the supplier:D I may have to pick through the plants because you know they didn't cover anything much.

Last night on channel 8, Pete Delcus said he originally was calling for a freeze in some areas, but changed it to 40* because the computer models where saying warmer.

I went out Turkey hunting this morning, dont know why on only 15 acres, but I enjoy going. If it wwasnt crazy $$ to lease, I'd do that, sure wish I had land again.

Never trust computer models or fashion models.:D

I wonder why they get a degree in meteorology, if they are just going to let the computer give them the forecast. Once was a time, weathermen were pretty accurate, at least in the 24-48 hour prediction. Anyone remember Harold Taft? Now, I think I could look at a map and come as close as the computers. After the last couple of weeks of predictions and them missing it, I'll bet I try to predict it myself, next Spring.

Of course, around here, one can predict the summer weather easily. "Sunny and Hot".

I just strolled down to my garden to check my tomato plants. They look remarkably good. I couldn't get into the garden to do a detailed inspection because it's too muddy, but I didn't see anything that looked droopy. I'm cautiously optimistic.:)

Just got back from Decatur Lowes, veggies looked fine! No droopy leaves, all looked good. Picked up a couple of Semi-dwarf peach trees, YEAH!! The Decatur Lowes is loaded with plants now. I wanted to get down to the Nursery by Stephenville, but that "aint" happening either:laughing:

I was supposed to meet a lady in Denton to get some rr ties, but when I called, she said she wouldn't be home:confused3:, come at 4:30..Shoot I "got's" things to do. She does have a great price ($7) about half what Lowes wants, but I didn't want to wait around and kill 4 hrs in Decatur.

Farmgirl, I must have more degrees than most, not sure, but certain I have more "3rd degrees" Got one every time I made my parents mad!!

My Father-in-law use to say "Why don't they give the weatherman an office with windows, he'll do a better job.

And yes, I do remember and miss Harold Taft. He was the best and I grew up with him on Channel 5.

Yeah, I remember when he was training a kid named David Finfrock.

Western; You are funny. I think I got a few of those 3rd degrees too!

Native Son; I think your father-in-law was a pretty smart guy. I believe he was onto something about the windows.

Bird; As long as Finfrock was Taft's underling, and for the first few years he was at KXAS, he was pretty food. He too has gone the lazy route, and doesn't use his degree much. Scott Chesner was good, but they got rid of him. :confused3:

Well, I may be amongst the minority, but I like little chubby Becky Miller. Harold Taft hired her right before he passed away and she was a weather person for about 17 years. She was a certified meteorologist and I enjoyed hearing her forecast on the radio as I drove to work each morning. Some say she was a bit curt and unfriendly, but I think she got that reputation because she wanted each station to tell what weather people were certified meteorologists. That was not a popular position to take. Besides all that, she's the weather person who said a four-letter word that rhymes with snit on the air. How can you not love somebody that does that?:D

Some where back in the "pages of this thread" I had mentioned H Taft , I remember he was known for being "accurate" and he attributed it to watching his goats:thumbsup: I personally like Pete Delcus on channel 8, great personality and delivery of the weather.

jinman;

I liked Becky too. Someone in corporate came down from New York, when they became NBC5, instead of KXAS, and the person said she couldn't understand Becky's forecast. Personally, they should have sent the corporate person back where she came from. Becky is still better than what they have at Ch. 5 now, and don't even get me started about the numbn*ts on Ch. 4 in the mornings. I KNOW he doesn't use anything more than a computer to make his call, and he is usually off, unless of course, it is July and "hot and sunny".

New York City, that explains it right there!!

My chauvinistic side liked Kristine Kahanek when she worked for channel 11 as the weather woman, besides being a great "community" person she was pleasurable to look at:D I know "not PC" for these times.

Over the last couple of years, local news has changed and IMO not for the best. It seems (especially channel 4) have tried to become more "entertainment tonight" than a news organization. For instance, John MCcaa (ch8) does an "unplugged segment', I dont care about his Opinion, just give me the news. Channel 4 (FOX) I cant hardly watch it anymore, tired of Steve Eager and Heather Hays always giving there opinions while doing storied news and I like them too.

I was under the impression news was news without reporters objectiveness, the lamestream media has become more agenda driven IMO. Ok my rant for the year:laughing:

Windy the next 2 days,,bummer

I didn't know Becky did that, but were you watching Dale Milford on WFAA-TV the night he made a blooper? He was pointing to the map and intended to say, "Up here we have a cold air mass" but he actually said, "Up here we have a cold mare's ***". Everyone got so tickled that he walked off and when the laughing subsided, someone else came out and finished the weather forecast.

I don't know why it isn't PC. We all like to look. To deny it, is just a lie. I think it is just part of being a "healthy, normal" human!

I always say, I don't care where you get your appetite, as long as you come home for supper! ;)

And I have been to auctions that prices were insane, too!
