Wow Don, thats terrible!! my wife pulled a "bonehead" like that earlier this year, luckily by the time the whells lost traction she was over it. (very narrow). Only place I'll gamble is in a casino, just not worth it IF you know it's there.

Has DOT or the county put in any signs, notifications or rumble strips? would a road side depth gauge do any good?

Eddie, Bridge came out great. Water appears to have came up just below the I-beam and the concrete footings look stellar.

Good looking bridge!!!

Dennis,
Looks like it is getting time to turn the planks over.
What is the elevated structure on the left with the little roof over it?
Is there a large brick house behind the trees to the right or is it just an illusion
made by the colored leaves and branches?
A nice place to walk!

There is a depth gauge but it is around the curve and you cannot see it till you are committed and can't back up. When you look behind you to back up all you see is black and no indication where the road is. The water gets deep very gradually and after going around the curve you think that was it, but the last 50 feet is about a foot deeper. It is very deceiving because you can see the yellow line easily all the way till the last 50'.

They do block it off the road, but the delay in the rising water 15-24 hours after the rain, causes a delay with that also. No one knows if it rained enough for the water to come up until it's up, then in just a short time, surprise!

They really just need to raise the road.

I really feel sorry for the husband who has to wait 2 days to see if it is his wife's car and if she is in it.

Ron, One board looked a bit warped on one end and your probably right. The intention was, he was going to treat the wood and prime the steel. The roof you see is his old deer blind, he has a real nice log home str8 up from the bridge, to the right of the deer blind.

Your last remark is a big ditto for me, I couldn't even imagine.

They should at least have a solar flashing high water sign on each end, but it takes allot to get DOT to move on something. Sounds like a set-up perfect for catching even a prudent driver off guard.

That is just too sad:(

If she drove by them, did they not think to peak around the corner!!!?? I mean da%$, they know its a problem since there putting up barricades:confused:

Sad that she ran a pet rescue, but couldn't be rescued herself, tragic story.

Killed my first copperhead for this year. Watch were your putting your hands. I broke my own rule about having a stick or shovel and had to waste a bullet.

I prefer distance in this situation. Pistol is much better than a stick or a shovel. Only good snake is a dead one.
