Jim, when I first saw that "Omaha Steaks" I wondered if you actually bought potatoes from them. I've never fixed a recipe like you described, but it sounds good to me. I used to buy the uncooked brats, boil them in beer with some onion, then put them on the grill. But my wife no longer eats brats, so I just buy the fully cooked ones in Muenster and pop one in the microwave for 1 minute. And I like the kraut, but my wife won't eat that either.

Bird, my neighbor likes to order stuff from Omaha Steaks. In my opinion, it's good, but you pay big time for packaging and shipping. I prefer to buy my steaks at Sam's Club. I wouldn't be eating this stuff if he hadn't given it to me. After all, the BEST steak is the one somebody buys for you. I'm actually the only one in the house who likes kraut and German cooking, except for strudel. I bought a blueberry and cream strudel at Fischer's and nobody turned down their portion.:D

Dennis, my recipe called for a tablespoon of brown sugar. I substituted molasses because that's similar and easy. I don't think it was anything but a sweetener that kinda added a caramelized flavor.

Jim, I, too, buy our ribeye steaks at Sam's Club. But every time we go to Muenster, my wife has to get a cherry strudel. Do you have a Schwan's truck working your neighborhood? They're not nearly as high priced as Omaha Steaks, but of course a bit more than the grocery stores. And they, too, have good food; just pay a little more for it. When we lived 20-25 miles from the grocery store, we used to buy a few things from Schwan's, especially ice cream in the summer.

It appears some places in Texas are indeed getting rain. There are storms to my west. And jinman, you may be right. I do the rain dance, and it looks like Wise county may get a few showers. I am going to have to figure out how to bring the showers here. Hmmm, wonder if I go dance in Burleson, will that bring showers farther south? (Didn't want to have to think so much, just wated to dance!)

Big storm last night, got almost .5" of rain. Temp this morning is 69. Yesterday PM the temp hit 110. Sure a nice change.

Farmgirl, the biggest rainstorm is in central Texas, so maybe you need to drive up to Oklahoma and do your rain dance in the Indian Nation.;)

The Jim Bowie Days Rodeo was fun last night. It was cool with a light breeze and very comfortable. The grandstands were 3/4 full too. I'm not really good at guessing numbers, but the stands are very new and wrap around the arena with raised seats above the bull/bronc riding chutes on one end and half the opposite end in regular bleachers. They have a new roping/bull-dogging chute at the end opposite the rodeo announcer's booth so the roping/bull-dogging events occur from one side of the arena and bull/bronc riders come out from the opposite side under the announcer's booth. So no matter where you sit, you are gonna see action close to you.

The rodeo got started at 6:00 PM with mutton bustin' where little kids ride sheep, and then riders brought in their horses for warmup in the arena before the grand entry. The grand entry started at 7:30 PM and the rodeo was over at 10:45 PM. It was a very long rodeo with lots of entrants. Of course they had the presentation of visiting rodeo queens from the whole area and the crowning of a new Miss Jim Bowie Days for 2013. That took almost an hour all by itself. For the $8 per person ticket, that's a lot of show. To make it even better, as we approached the gate, a lady asked us if we had tickets. She said she had extra tickets somebody gave her and she would give them to us. She wouldn't take anything for them, so we got our tickets free from a total stranger. Talk about luck. . .

For some reason, luck was not with the participants in the rodeo. Many of them were pros, but didn't perform well. Out of 10 teams, not a single team roping team qualified. There was only one bareback bronc rider and he performed well with a good 8 second ride. The next 8 were saddle bronc riders and only two qualified. That's the way it seemed to go all night with bull dogging, roping, and women's breakaway roping. There just weren't many who had good luck. I was a bit disappointed by that, mainly for the participants. It was a fun night, but a lot of "fail" was going on.:) I remember FFA amateur rodeos in the '60s with much better performances. Oh well. . . we certainly got our money's worth.;)

jinman; I am glad that there was a good turn out for the rodeo. Yep, when I was competing, either everyone was "on", or we all stunk. Phase of the moon, sunspots, take your pick, it happens.

So, where is everyone else today? It's a weekend. Bindian should be around. And where is Bird and Western?

Bird did just a very little lawnmowing, took the dog for walk in the woods, got the car washed, took my wife to the Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall, and just finished watching the Rangers game. In other words, just a kind of slow day.

   / Texas Spring/Summer Thread #2,490
Now one of you is accounted for! Where is everyone else?

I understand "slow" days. I was on the tractor brush hogging, at 0700! I was hoping that there would be rain that would send me back indoors, since I was seeing lightening off to the southwest. No rain, and barely a cloud. At least there was a breeze!

If you were in this area, you wouldn't have to worry about any wet spots. I've cut and baled some hay but never used a combine. Hope the weather cooperates with you.

I figured you were baling, Blueriver! I figure foreman etexas is too. But some of the every day or every weekend posters are MIA.

Thanks ever so for checking in though. Nice to know all is well!

PS. blueriver, do you realize you are shown as being in Oklahoma? I think you make a neat Texan though!

Yep .. When bird started this I chimed in around 8 or so post and just joined the conversation ... After all I'm only 35 miles into Oklahoma and get to Texas a lot .. Heck I'm even licensed in Texas ...

Well, if you are only 35 miles north of the Red River, may as well BE a Texan! I think it counts! (Of course, I am not sure anyone cares what I think! ) Thanks for the info!

Anyone who is close enough to smell Texas is safe to post in this thread. Heck! Pacerron posts here and he's nowhere near Texas. I think he has a subliminal wish that he was a Texan though.:D

Farmgirl, maybe everyone was out enjoying the cool weather and northerly breeze. This morning was the first time I haven't broken a sweat in the garden in several weeks. Besides, Brandi has so many irons in the fire that I don't know how she finds any time to post here at all. That girl doesn't let the dust settle very much. She's always going and doing neat stuff.

I got the BH back on the tractor:tractor: after the brush hog being on it awhile. Had fun digging:cool2: brush out of the gully where the brush hog wouldn't reach.:mur: Then grappled it to the burn pile. Of all my tractor's attachments and impliments, I love the BH the best.:cloud9:
hugs, Brandi

I did 5 hours of brush hogging today. Climbed on the tractor at 0700, so fully understand wanting to "enjoy" the cooler temps. I wish you would come do some of my stuff here too, bindian! I have a few gullies and ditches to fret over!

Just was missing everyone, when I got back indoors. Nice to know most are accounted for now.

And jinman, I didn't mean that only Texans could post here, just was looking for the regulars that seem to post daily. Even a Texan wannabe is welcome in my book! :D

OK, one has to ask.... Pacer as in horses, or as in Piper aircraft? Or, something entirely different?
