Morning to the brain trust. I have a New Holland TC33DA and having issues with my hydrostatic drive. Pedal engaged and tractor goes then slowly backs off to a stop. Pedal back then forward and moves again. #'s II and III speeds useless as unit can't keep up creep around in I with a lot of forward and back on the pedal. changed out all hydraulic oil with OEM fluid and filters and still no good. All other hydraulics working as they should so problem just in the drive area. Brought to my local dealer for service/repair just heard from them saying I need a new clutch. I've read that "the clutch" is primarily used just for PTO engagement which is working fine. Haven't pulled the trigger on repair concerned of this diagnosis. Any wisdom very much appreciated, Happy Spring to all.....

I would think the clutch is mainly used for PTO engagement, yes, but it also drives the transmission. You claim the PTO is working fine. If the clutch is the problem then when the tractor stops moving so will the PTO. Have you confirmed that? Your description of the symptoms does lean toward a clutch slipping problem, but the operation (or nonoperation) of the PTO during these events will make or break the theory.

Thank you Harry, no I have not put the two together so probably this is my issue. I said PTO "works fine" because I see it spin when engaged but have not tried any implements since my drive issue. Appreciate the time to reply...peace
