I broke the male end of my pto on my cutter. Unhooked my cutter and drove away forgetting to unhook the pto from the tractor. Pulled apart and I reversed it into a pretzel….
Can I use the male end on my tiller to use on the cutter or is it too short and a bad idea?

Rather annoying to have to change it every time you switch. Seeing that it is winterish, that should give you a few months to find/buy another.

If they are the same design and size that the two sections will scope in and out smoothly as long as the overall length and the shafts have enough over lap, Yes.
However most tillers are coupled much closer to the tractor then most brush hogs so I would expect the shaft section to be a bit short.

Haven’t hooked it up to the tractor yet but it slides right in same size. Not sure how much overlap I’ll have when I hook it up.
I just didn’t know if you needed so much overlap to be safe.

Where it overlaps is double the strength per inch. So the more you have extended the weaker the shaft is.

The rule of thumb is 6” minimum overlap. Tough to achieve with many tillers.
Thank you. I’m pretty sure it isn’t 6 inches but I’ll check it out next time I get a chance. Prolly just need to order one anyways, easy dumb expensive mistake….
