Kubota R510 Wheel Loader + Cab and backhoe, JD 6200 Open Station, Cushman 6150, 4x4, ten foot 56 hp Kubota diesel hydraulic wing mower, Steiner 430 Diesel Max, Kawasaki Diesel Mule, JD 4x2 Electric Gator
I have a 430 MAx Diesel with a bunch of attachments. My lady friend need s mower for her new house, and I came accross a 230 Diesel possibly for sale. She doesn't need articulation nor 4wd, in fact she doesn't like using my Steiner at all. I just thought since it was attachment compatible, it might be a good machine. Does it have foot hydro controls?

Steiners are known for their maneuverability and on slope performance. What is this 230s strong points over any other mower, ride on or ZT?

I see there is virtually no information on this machine on this site or anywhere else.

Well since I don't know anything about them, I did an image search and watched a video: Steiner 23 Tractor with 72" Mower and Lawn Leaf Blower. Diesel - YouTube

So the answer is yes. :D

Thanks. I made the guy, kind of a low offer and so far have heard nothing back. It's just not a popular machine and I like buying stuff I can sell if need be. It's one of those cases where getting it is as desireable as not. I need more complicated equipment in my life like another hole in the head.

I did talk to the mechanic at the local dealer. He says they are a great mower, much faster than the Steiner 4x4 tractor.

The neighbors of my lady friend would wonder, if she showed up with that to cut around 2000 sq feet of lawn! It wouldn't even get up to operating temperature.

If you go on the Steiner site, it is now a 235 model# It has foot control and turning brakes and weight transfer and a very tight turning radius ..... Jim

I guess the turning brakes are new on the 235. The 230 has a foot control and weight transfer. Also has a huge hump you have to put your leg over.

Seems like the guy doesn't like my offer. It's not something I would like to try and sell. A lot of guys want a Steiner, just not this one! For that style of mower, I would sooner have a JD or Kubota. It's only the attachment compatibility that interests me somewhat.

If it is fairly flat I would get a zero turn, if thats all your going to do is cut grass. if you need to plow or blow snow I would look harder at the 230..... Jim

She has about a twenty foot long drivewy. I have a V blade and blower, but kind of need them myself to move snow close to buildings. I would love to try a 230 just for the heck of it.

You see a lot of them in this area, and I would have to look at it but they aren't cheap..... Jim

Again, I assume you are talking about the articulated tractors, not the 230. To me the only merit of this machine would be if you had Steiner attachments already.

No, the 230, They get around better than a JD. belly mount, and for sure better than the JD. zero turn..... you cut the grass before you run over it too..... Jim

Thanks. If I had to go with that style I would go with the f series JD or Kubota, just to have something more mainstream.

Yep, the out front deck is my favorite. But I prefer the red ones:

The Articulated Steiner is a horrible way to cut grass. Sure the deck is out front but it is very tiring. Sure, the new ones with foot pedal are better, but swinging that deck around on the articulation is a chore.

Me, I like my ten foot Cushman wing mower. It's like flying a Lear jet in comparison. Like I would know what that's like.DSC00400.JPG Only problem is, something is ALWAYS leaking, and it's next to impossible to work on. But cutting grass is no longer an issue of time. You can keep a HUGE amount of grass cut, just ten minutes here and there when you feel like having a sit down job.

If you want comfort get a Ferris zero turn with suspension and a cat diesel. I remember when the JD. dealer had to get rid of them because they could not sell a JD. zero turn..... Jim

Yeah, I could use a suspension seat. When I did a very large mowing job on hard ground, my hips suffered the next day. But generally, any mowing job just doesn't take long with 62HP and a ten foot cut. Plus I like Automotive steering.

Look at suspension on the mower it's self and you can add the suspension seat too.... Jim
