Snow Plow, How Big?

Same here. We got a light snow on Saturday. Didn't stick, ground was too warm. We haven't even had spring yet, let alone summer.

I can wait for winter.

:D

My vote is 8 foot. I always find anything less a problem when angled

Better if the whole plow flops over or if the bottom section just kicks back?
Looking for 7.5 or 8, leaning 7.5
Some good deals out there but I don't want to drive 6 hours, if you know what I mean.

Mine is bottom trip but that wasn't a selection that I made. It just happened to be what was available. It helped keep the mounting frame higher. That helps eliminate dragging the frame on the driveway. Paul Short has a video where he mentions he had to add an extra pair of skid shoes to eliminate gouging the blacktop with the frame. I've only hit a couple things with it and the moldboard remains in the plowing position. I'm guessing that you'd be more likely to ride up over the snow if the whole blade flipped.

Nice rig.
Tempted to get a frame with lights.
Do not know if a frame with lights would work though.

The first year we were at the new house with new tractor, I borrowed a plow from my father. A 9ft Western Pro. Attached it to a QA plate via welded on tabs and away I went. I have loaded R4s, very flat asphalt drive, but still could push 18" of powder or 12" of wet snow. 6" of heavy slop would stop or slide me around though.

I rebuilt an old Meyer 7.5ST to replace the Western. Replaced the springs (only two) and did some welding to patch and repair some cracks. A new cutting edge is the only real expense. Plow was free. Just had to haul it away. It plows well, but I miss the wide swath that the 9ft plow made.

You guys should be tripping over old Fisher plows up there.

Some old preacher in the 18th century, begging to be brought back to Massamachusetts said about Maine that it was a 'God forsaken land of God forsaken people.'
I love it until it gets too cold.
Just trying to get the plow right, 7.5 to 8', not too heavy a setup but not lightweight either. Hydraulics and maybe lights on a stick.

Mine is also a bottom trip (like Chims setup) and is 7 1/2'. I ran hydraulic lines from one rear remote to the front to operate the angle.
You mention lights on a stick? If you mean lights on a stick mounted to the plow blade I think that is a bad idea. I've seen lights mounted or attached to the plow and the vibration while plowing shook the bulb filaments loose. Mount your lights to the cab or ROPS.

Yes, planning on running a line from the rear remote.
Agree with your conclusion that the vibration from the plowing will kill the plow frame mounted lights.
Thanks

There are a couple of threads on here about making an under slung mount for a front plow on a loader frame it shortens up the package nicely and takes a lot of the bounce out of the plow setup.
I have a SSQA plow and it sticks out a long ways in front of the tractor,
I believe I would have been happier with an under slung truck plow setup.
about a 9ft V would be nice.
