Hi.
I don't see a thread on this topic. I need a running gear wagon for around my small farm. A miniature version of the big trailers used by my neighbors for haying, four to five feet wide, with potential for a dump feature. Here's the choices that I've found with pictures below:
Kory 3000 - 3 ton wagon
EZ Trail 260 - 2 ton wagon
Country Manufacturing - 1 ton wagon
The Kory and EZ Trail would require modification to dump while the CMI has a $100 dump feature option. As you can see the Kory and EZ Trail are much more substantial wagons than the CMI. Has anyone purchased any of these and what do you think? Any dump modifications made? I'm in Vermont and there are no Kory dealers but I think this is the best made. My EZ Trail dealer (who looks at me like I'm crazy) actually charges more than if I were to buy direct from the manufacturer and will only order in winter for a spring delivery. Are there any dealers close to VT that want to deal?
- Joe

Quite a few of us on TBN have the tandem axle trailer version of the CMI 7300, which is the 7500. I don't think anybody is unhappy with them.

I have the Kory 3000 and have adapted a Load Handler that I use to unload dirt and rock that works really well. I can crank a load off in about a minute and be on my way for another load. The bed size is 55"x109" and I have sideboards that are 12" tall, I can load it to the top with dirt and still unload it with no problem. I have towed it with my pickup about 15 miles each way and hauled it full of chicken manure for the garden, just kept the speed about 45mph, tows fine.

I've got the CMI 7500. The trailer itself is OK, nothing special. The dump feature is a waste of money; it doesn't raise the bed near high enough for the load to slide out. The back overhang on the 7500 prevents the bed from being raised very high anyway; unless you're dumping over a bank. But the dump feature fell well short of reaching even this limit.

If you're planning to haul and dump dirt in this trailer, look elsewhere. The wood slat floor in the trailer will leak dirt all over the cylinder and lift mechanism. Dirt sticks to the wood floor and won't readily slide out even if you do manage to raise the bed to a high dump angle.

I somehow damaged the cylinder on mine trying to wrassle the bed into a higher position to get it to dump; then having the bed come down off-square. The cylinder is a slightly modified bottle jack which is commonly available. I bought another for parts to fix the modified one but haven't bothered to do it yet.

For hauling firewood, trimmings, or brush, it's OK. Wish it was about 6" wider.

Right now I'm using a small Agri-Fab trailer. I've had it for a month and can already tell that it is not up to the task. I need something heavier.

I'm on only 3 acres, and don't have a use for a heavy payload. So in an effort to consolidate equipment, why not get a small road legal trailer and use it for both tractor and truck purposes? is the only reason payload?

Joe, any progress finding your wagon? My Kory has been really tough even though it is only rated at 3000 lb. I've hauled a full 450 gal water tank with mine. The only disadvantage with the wagon is backing and even though it had been thirty years since I'd backed a farm wagon, it came back pretty quick.

Hi. It's been a while since I visited. I now have a second need for a movable chicken coop. I'm leaning toward the FarmTek running gear. They have two models rated at 1500 and 3000 pounds. I plan to build a coop on the 3000 and to buy the 1500 with a expanded wire deck for moving materials. No dumping capability, but I think I can live with that.

Here are the 2 ton models from CMI. It looks like they tilt up pretty high so I don't know if that solves the problem that Bob has had with dumping.

Country Manufacturing, Inc. - 2-Ton Utility Wagon & Tandem Axle Trailer

Paul, the utility trailers at FarmTek look just like the CMI ones.

Lunk, the KK trailer looks good, I like that it is all metal, but, for me its capacity is too low, especially at that price which is up there.

I've looked around for a while now and cannot find anything in the 2 ton range that looks like it would meet my needs except for the CMI ones. And the price is good. I've got rear remotes so I would add a ram and not have to mess with a bottle jack.

I've had good luck with the Country Manufacturing 2 ton trailer. The wood floor doesn't leak as much as you'd think. It is a little worse for wear after we abused it during my Pool Demo Project but has stood up pretty well. It dumps plenty high - everything slides out OK. The rear could be higher when dumping - the piles end up kind of long & low.

Here is the assembly process with pix CMI 2 ton trailer

There is one thing I don't understand and that's the drop-pin hitch connection. I just don't see how that is supposed to work on a regular draw bar. I see no problems on level ground. But what about hills and uneven ground side to side? With a ball hitch the trailer can move up and down and twist side to side by rotating on the ball. On the wagon version the tongue is hinged to provide up and down flexibility. I just don't see how it works on the trailer. Is there just a lot of slop between the pin and the draw bar hole it fits in?
