From what I understand the side walls are not able to handle the pressure of dirt pushing in if you bury it. As such if you do would you will likely lose the side walls sooner or later unless you build a retaining wall first. The strength of the containers is all in the corners where they latch together. Can a shipping container be partially buried along its side on a steep/stepped hill to make a flat above it? Maybe even a carport? Maybe will some kind of drainage or will that just be a corrosion disaster at a later date?

Shipping containers are very secure, as well as being weather tight and rodent proof, BUT
they do get very hot inside. Hot enough to turn fuel into varnish.
You may want to consider putting the container under a car port.
I keep looking at them on Craigslist. Only problem is I don't know about county regs, like if I can call it temp or portable and not get permit. Since we just pulled permits to build the house we'll have inspectors around too much to "just forget to ask".Im considering the multibox that someone posted earlier. Spoke with the owner earlier today and am awaiting pictures and specs. It would require a bit of modification but will work i believe. Not as secure but i think itll do
Oh I just noticed you're right down 85 from me. I'm in Jackson county. Guessing you're not in Gwinnett if no worries about permits. No worries where i am in regards to permits. Only thing I'm worried about is clearance in the dumb container.
I see these advertised on CL all the time.. Some in the 3K range. My question is why so many and so cheap?
Are they not usable again ? ... 1 trip across the Atlantic and it's done ?
