Seriously...TPMS?

Just put snow tires with TPMS on a Honda, with new metal wheels, so alloys in summer, metal in winter. Dealer says has to come back in when tires are changed (diff sensors), but no change when rotating, far as I know. You would think it could be set up for owner w/o special tools... push a few buttons on dash, jump up & down, etc to get the code, but nooo. Anything to get a service job I guess. I got the dealer to agree to set up TPMS for no charge so I can swap tires myself. I agree it's getting nuts. Like a lot of the tech stuff, but wonder how long before you'll need a chip in your skull to use a public crapper.

My 2007 Tundra and the wife's 2012 Corolla don't need a scan tool.

Yup.. They don't even want us doing the most mundane tasks anymore..Wait until you can't reset the oil use alarm. It's coming, I'm sure. This still pases-me-oof.

Nope, not just rotating the tires. I did have to push the button on my 07, so it would learn the new positions though. If replacing the TPMS sensor , the dealer or you will have to re program.

If its Gm your referring to, theres a way to do it by inflating and deflating the tires.

A thousand wonders that some of us old farts are still around. I was taught to keep a check on my tires, not to put small toys in my mouth, not to stick anything into a 110, etc, wall outlet,,etc, etc,

you can rotate without resetting anything the vehicle wont know the difference, some vehicles will tell you tire location, some don't. the g.m. vehicles that give position can be reset w/out tools. trucks that have differernt pressure front & rear (ie e-250 60-80 psi) will trip the light when rotated, but the reset procedure is in the vehicle owners manual. I only have a tpms reset tool because it came with my scanner. very rarely gets used.

We had people who did not check their tire pressures....ever! We had a series of vehicle rollovers that were attributed to low tire pressures because people were too busy or didn't know how. So the only way to protect those who know better from those who don't care or know better was to require TPMS. Now if we would stop calling 'accidents' accidents and laying blame or responsibility where it belongs the world might be different. But we have a 'no fault/no blame' society more or less these days.

This is one of the problems today, if your too stupid to ever check your tire pressure then you deserve to get the consequences. Unfortunately now we all have to suffer because of some stupid people. This and all the similar issues bother me but it's where we are now.
