Rounded off drain plug

Ok, I've been a fan of Knipex already but that video is freaking amazing. Menards carries these in stock, along with several other Knipex pliers in case someone wants to see them in person.

Agree, really impressive and capable locking pliers from the vid

- but-
(and maybe I am alone on this) the last nut I tried to remove that looked that corroded resulted in twisting off the entire bolt shaft and nut as a single piece.
No nice shiny decent threads inside the nut.

I would like to see Kando give a set of those pliers a whirl on the stuck drain bolt -my guess is they would get that bolt out.
Especially with a cheater bar/tube placed over the locking pliers end.

A turbo socket with a 1/2 inch breaker bar sounds good to- since (The amount of grip increases with the amount of force applied.)

Yep, so amazing that I ordered a pair of the larger 12" ones and the 8" high leverage diagonal cutters.

I have a pair of those and I didn’t realize they did that. Sure enough they do. That’s fact not marketing hype. Then I tried the same thing with a regular pair and they did the same thing but not as good. IMG_0747.JPG I have a pair of 10” cutters and they’re sweet. I’ve abused them every chance I got and the blades are much better than lower grade cutters. They don’t have a single knick in the blades. Channel Lock brand has gone to garbage btw. IMG_0749.JPG

I do have the Knipex Cobra Pliers, but I think Kando needs more leverage.

With cheater...!!!!
I still think that if he needs a cheater, he's got more problems than we know about. What he really needs is to have somebody with a little more experience; that way he won't make his problems even worse.

The bottom line as I see it this issue has been solved for the life of the machine but I am still learning a lot that is helpful now with the "smooth" lug nut on the F-150. I am going to check out the German pliers mentioned in the last few posts.

How about attaching a 4” hydraulic cylinder to the end of the cheater and power torque that baby off? :blacksmith: :blacksmith: :blacksmith:

How many psychologists does it take to change a drain plug? Only one, but the drain plug really has to want to change...

While we are waiting for Kando to get at 'er again... and the subject of Knipex is holding folk's attention. Here is something you might try in a 'pinch'. Cotter pins out of paperclips.

Just noticed the resolution is not bad on the pics even though I dumbed them down. Hope nobody is stealing my fingerprints... I have been using a couple of them at TSA security lately to fast track at the airports. :D

Mate. You seem to be a wee bit obsessed with this pipe-wrench 'solution', and this isn't the first (or fourth) posting. Other solutions have been offered and quite a few new tools (ones that I was unaware of, anyway)/methods have been discussed.

It's a stripped plug, not a pipe.

My first post regarding this thread . I just hope Kando wears correct gloves , eye protection , has proper lighting and maybe can even get someone to record his next attempt . At this point would be cool too actually see it spin off or hear him cuss !

Good tip and thanks for resizing. I can see your fingerprints, but don't need them. :D

Here is the info on your pictures:

125KB.PNG

Compared to one that isn't resized, note the difference is size:

4608x3456.PNG

And I have seen larger pictures posted that are over 5MB.

Of course.... a pipe wrench should ONLY be used for pipe?
Silly me...for thinking there might be other applications.

IMO...From the way the plug looks I'd say most of the damage has been done by plier (two handle) type tools...likely vise grips etc...but the principal is the same with any type of plier type tools...they are more likely to tear material away as opposed to the applied jaw forces of a pipe wrench...

Right, this may look like a pipe wrench, but it is really a metal bender. The main use is straightening bent in mower decks. :D
