Rounded off drain plug

I want to see how they held the drain plug so it would unscrew itself.

The pliers I prefer would work just as well, but they are kinda pricey....KNIPEX Tools LP - KNIPEX

I have a couple Knipex Cobra pliers too... they bite extremely well. A perfect tool to put on your xmas list! You know... for the guy that is hard to buy for.

Friiend is a roving tool guy and has a 31 foot truck chock full of stuff and somehow, coincidentally, I stock his favorite evening beverage. No tools on my Christmas list, he's already beat everyone to it. I am short on socks and underwear, nobody brings that stuff around the shop.

Nope!
That job is now WAY BEYOND the capability of "water pump" pliers.
Water pump pliers might have been a good original try.
NOW....Pipe wrench ONLY....and a high Quality pipe wrench....largest possible to fit in available space.

Do you have one of these? They’re pretty expensive but it’s a handy tool. Here’s a tool that would have helped the op. It’s an adjustable wrench for square pieces.

Or use the correct tool for the job, a bolt extractor which covers the bolt head and bites in when turned counterclockwise. Get a set and have them. This will remove a bolt with a head that is completely rounded. Good luck...

On this drain plug the 1/4 - 3/4" set may be required but the nut option would let one get in a tight spot and use a long boxed end wrench to turn it.

Your wife/SO would have to be able to appreciate unannounced driveway parties, loud noises (fireworks, cannon shots, un-muffled engines)and other assorted foolish nonsense we come up with. The crew has been known to head out on very short notice too. Apparently we are very difficult to live with when we have down time between projects.
