Has anyone used tongs for lifting rocks? I came across the 'two prong' tongs on Amazon while scrolling and thought they might do well for picking up rocks (of which I have many). Then I came across some specifically marketed as rock tongs.

I'm thinking they might be especially useful for building stone walls. I have a grapple, but tongs would allow me to spin a rock, push it slightly side to side, etc while setting it in place. Anyone used them?

I've had no luck with something like log tongs. You want three of more points of contact to reduce spinning or twisting out of the grip.

Try picking up a brick-sized, random shaped rock with thumb and one finger, then try with thumb and two fingers.

The simplest version I've seen is like a log tong but one finger has two points of contact, giving three points of contact to grip the rock.

Looks to me that the 3-point rock tongs would be better/safer. Keep a top heavy rock from going "keel up". From experience - my clam shell grapple is not the easiest thing to man handle a rock with. I grip the rock firmly. To place it on the rock wall - rotate the grapple so when opened the rock will drop directly down - onto the wall. This, quite often, is not the way you want the rock to sit on the wall. Soooo....push the rock around so that when you grip, rotate and then drop - it will be in the correct position. It takes patience and experience.
