I just started 'A People's History Of the US' which is supposed to be quite a liberal take on American History. The companion book is the conservative leaning 'A Patriot's History Of the US' which I will read next.

See, even in book titles the labeling battles never end.

Actually, back in the dark ages,the 4th amendment was mentioned(Thanks Dave) If one were to read it literally, there is no "right to privacy"mentioned. Your thoughts?

A lot of people say that the "right to privacy" is a fiction created by some activist judges to advance certain ,ahem,
political aims.

Early on in the financial crisis there appeared to be a concerted effort by conservatives to assign the mess to the CRA and by broader association, government programs for minorities.

And in numerous conversations on TBN about privacy, the recession, healthcare, Social Security, the housing markets, often times conservative's thoughts and ideas diverge onto the topic of socialism and welfare.

I think what's going on here are differences in the notion of morality.

Conservatives are against health care rationing , death Panels, abortions and keeping folks in poverty by giving them handouts and making them dependant on the government. Conservatives believe that people should be allowed to be all they can be and free from oppression. Think of all our past military men and women who died fighting against socialisim and communisim ...How immoral is this ?

How could anyone claim abortion is immoral and be in favor of the death penalty?

How could anyone not be in favor of the dealth penalty and sanction abortion?

These are two very different views of morality Brin.

If the definition of 'privacy' is broadened in scope, who stands to benefit and who not? This is not a rhetorical question. My impression is all private citizens would prefer strict and broad privacy rights whether the Contitution grants that or not.

Keegs, Even after 3 cups of coffee, I don't know the acronym CRA. However, it is clear to me that if wheeler-dealers profit trading derivitives on dubious mortgages until their ponzi scheme runs out of money; we have only the welfare class to blame for bringing our financial system to it's knees.
