Alright guys, it's a rainy day again and I'm stuck in the office while the equipment is being auto washed by mother nature. My bobcat dealer asked me what I thought about these mulchers from Advance Forest. I'm skeptical but that could be just because they are different. He is thinking about putting one on a E80 excavator and trying to sell it to me or my local competitor.

Anyone ever operated one or seen it in person?

I talked to John Moffet a couple years ago... I feel you'd never get a good finished product with that type of mower.

Pro-Mac make one, I think they were around first. And Slash Buster.

I like the fact that you can do minimal work with it (pick up logs and stuff) as well as grinding. They seem to be more versatile than the other style. I think the price for the bobcat would be close to $25k. My thinking is that it would be better suited for a large machine and not a mini type though.

I operated the new Cat 320D with Johns new gen 3 disk. Very impressive. The finished product was as good as my Fecons.

I've been Talking with John Moffet also. He tells me that he runs an entire fleet of them in Ca. The thing that appeals to me is that they use Quadco teeth that can be picked up at any forestry equipment dealership. Hallertau, what do m you think has better production the fecon or the AFE machine? I have run one of the older Fecon heads on a Super Trak excavator and was not very impressed.

I am a Fecon rep just so anyone who reads this knows. If you are running on an E80 you would do yourself a favor by looking at the Fecon CEM36. The old carbide argument is gone. The CEM36 is built for 7-15 ton excavators and can use carbide or knife tools. I have the CEM36 running on the Bobcat E80 in Colorado it is FANTASTIC! Of course this contractor uses the carbide tools due to the considerable rocky environment, but where you can run them knives will cut faster and fecon's knife tools is extremely fast. But that is one big advantage with fecon since we came out with knife tools. tailor you cutting tools to your application. Fecon offers 4 diffrent style of tools and you can mix and match or change as often as you like. Put the knives on where there are no rock worries, change to the double carbides where there is rock concerns, heck, even put on the single carbides or stone tools if you have the need. Check out the You Tube videos for the Fecon CEM36. It is the best cutter out there for an E80 or similar machine and the most durable by far!

Oh yea, I almost forgot. Fecon offers a thumb reciever with the CEM36 and price is under $21,000.00

tift104, i'm not sure what size excavator your thinking but I do believe the RDM will out produce the fecon. They do throw more material than the fecon but if your wanting to blow through trees and brush the RDM is fast.

I run a CEM 36 on an 080 and i'm happy with it. As always want more HP but it works well. I have not run Moffet's mulcher on the 080 yet. Maybe next week. I don't live to far from Johns shop. I'll let you know.

mulching consultant, you are right about the rocky ground. Your not going to be able to get the RDM down in the rock as well as the fecon. I had a Torrent Technical head that had Quadco style teeth, cut fast but didn't like the rock. Thats why I changed to the Fecon.

Thanks for the testimonial. Glad you like the CEM. Remember you can run knife teeth on it too if you get into a rock-free environment. I have heard people say it cuts better than a 20 ton machine with the knife teeth.

Quick Draw, Is that a challenge? The comment came from a person that has installed more mulching heads on excavators than anyone one the planet....literally (hundreds)! He is an equipment dealer in the Northwest and personally has installed all types of mulching heads, including Fecon, Cimaf, FAE, AFE, etc.

No, it's common sense. I have a 40k lb excavator and there is no way a mini could cut with it (I had one), especially since I have the best head made for an excavator, a Denis Cimaf.

I don't mind salesmen on here but don't go dishing out your salesman BS. We know what works and what doesn't. How many hours have you put in operating a mulcher? Fecon makes a great product and I love my BH74SS but you're just making Fecon look stupid with comments like that.

As I am no longer affiliated with any mulcher companies I can say that the CIMAF head will out cut your Fecon..knives..hammers..crowbars..whatever you want to put on it..take two identical machines tune them and install a Fecon on one and a CIMAF on the other...game on!

Ted..how has business been?

if you like to sharpen teeth in the afternoon and at night on the cimaf head. fecon, seppi, fae needs no sharpening with a grinder, i have got 600 hours use on a fecon before changing teeth, try that with your cimaf!!! game on:thumbsup:

I have both and both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you're in rocks you need carbides. If you're in big stuff or hard stuff like iron wood or hickory you will love the knives. You just can't really say one is better than the other because they are different and designed for different applications.

Using a combination of both heads we are able to be very productive and out pace our competitor on the same project while taking out much larger trees than he does.

You just need both types of heads in your aresenal.

that pretty well sums it up,you do need both styles to be competative.when running excavators cimafs are way fasters because your not in the ground as much.the heads are also easier on the carrier.
