Quick hitch vs pat's hitch

/ Quick hitch vs pat's hitch #81
Between my Brother and I we use four tractors. They all have a QH on them.

Good catch on the different length top link for a Pat's system Roger. I forgot to mention that.

I have had people on here argue with me about the toplink, they just don't get it.

You might be able to avoid the additional purchase in some cases. But generally, it's a requirement.

To keep the 3PH geometry right it would be necessary.

Brian from Fit right should be asking about using a Pats system so he can extend the Top link.

I was against the idea of a QH. I did not like messing with the turn buckles on the BX so I got one. I liked it so much I got one for the 4240.

I tryed a QH.(Speeco)
For my uses I didn't see any gain vs my extendable lower link arms, telescoping sway bars and hydraulic top link.
Gave the QH to my dad years ago. Don't think he has ever used it.

Again, for you, there may be no gain. I think it depends on how often you hook/unhook attachments. Also helps that you are CAT I. Lighter attachments, lighter 3pt arms to handle.

With your setup, if you don't mind man-handling your equipment you can probably get along without either system added.

I like my QH for even my trailer mover. I can walk up and throw it on. If I need to lift something heavy with the loader I can put my blade on for ballast quickly and remove it quickly when I am done. If a implement is in the way in can move it seconds. When I got done working the tractor I can quickly remove a implement and put the tractor away.

I think it is funny how everyone gets SSQA on their loader and they may have 1 attachment for it that they barely use but they won't get a QH when they have multiple implements.

Well stated Roger.

I built a 3pt weight rack to store my front suitcase weights on. Built it with CAT I and CAT II hookups. Weighs 1000lb. I can pick it up in a few seconds, use it for temporary ballast, set it back down later, never getting off the tractor. I use it on my M9540 CAT II. My Brother uses it on his L3240 CAT I.

Edit: Forgot to mention the trailer moving trick. Used mine yesterday to move my 30ft GN trailer and then my 16ft bumper hitch trailer out of the driveway for the pending snow storm. Never got off the tractor.

Thanks Richard.

I forgot to mention the worst thing about a QH is taking them off and putting them on.

Trailer movers are great on tractors.

Here's what I use to move trailers without having to remove the QH. And yes, a QH is a bummer to take off, especially with tip n tilt.

Depends on where in the system they get the flexibility.

For example, here is a quick hitch compatible mower:

BB48X Rotary Cutters

Bruce

My mowers are not QH compatible. I did not know that such a thing existed until you posted the link. Quick hitches often don't work well with post hole diggers also.

I'm surprised I don't see this mentioned more often.
Quick hitch's won't let the mowers float properly on uneven ground.

When the HF version of the QH was available for under $80 I couldn't resist it. It'll sit in the shed till after winter, because the rear blade is on already and there won't be a need to change any implements until spring. I looked at the different 3PH implements I have here and there will be some minor mods necessary for a couple to get clearance for the hook on the QH.

The Landpride RFM looked to be more of a challenge and I made that comment here. Roy told me to look at the way a Brush Bull frame can be re-connected to make it QH compatible and fortunately my RFM has the same type of frame. Here's a page from the Brush Bull manual:

How often do you guys use a post hole digger that it needs to be quick hitch compatible?

Not very often but when I do need it, it is a whole lot easier and quicker to hook up than wrestling the QH off and back on. Note: It DOES require Hydraulic Top Link to get range of motion needed.

Remember with the HF quick hitch the top hook needs extended so it will connect to the implements. Either it needs extended or the spacing between the two sides of the top link pin (on the implement) have to be wide enough so that the two sides of the quick hitch at the hook will fit in between the two sides on the implement, and the stationary pin may also have to be moved out closer to the edge. Man this is really hard to explain unless you are trying to connect up at that time and are seeing just what is being talked about. I did not envision the problem when I first bought the HF quick hitch and I took it back and told them it didn't work, and then like you I repurchased a different HF quick hitch on sale and also used a coupon, I just couldn't resist at that price of course I had seen the thread here on TBN that showed the hook being extended and it all made perfect sense (ding it clicked)!
This all probably doesn't make any sense to you right now but it should when you go to use the HF quick hitch next spring.:confused3::thumbsup:

Leave your QH on the last implement you use before the PHD then connect as normal.
