PTO Generator outlet box problems. Help need pls

That is a typical generator connector. I've installed hundreds of them for portable industrial generators.

It is not what you find on residential generators but your electrician can certainly make a cord to match.

So.. I called and all of a sudden it got complicated with the store.

How many volts, how many poles how many phazes...etc.. I'm LOST!!!

All I could say was a PTO Generator, 16KW (I can't make that much) going to a 200 amp interlock.

I guess its not going to be a simple twist lock form what I can gather.

Thanks for trying to help me through this.. Im frustrated..

Howdy,
The connection you are talking about are called pin & sleeve connections. The important connection information is 460_12W, which means the plug is 125/250 volts, North American, orange colored. Each manufacturer puts there special naming in the front of the numbers.

__460P12W = plug
__460C12W = connector
__460R12W = receptacle
__460B12W = inlet

Mennekes
ME460B12W
Scame
SCM460B12W
Hubbell
HBL460B12W
and others....

Marine use, mining use, stage and theatre use, generator use. You would just need to find a compatible back box for mounting the inlet. There are others methods too. I make use of Anderson connectors. Specifically the Anderson SB350 plugs matted which are 350 amp plugs bolted together for the 4 wires. The thread is still relevant today with connecting a generator.

This is an example where there are some jobs that "do it your selfers" should not attempt. No time and no money has been saved plus there is extra frustration. Plus your electrician friend is tired of giving out free advice . Does a lawyer give free advice ?

I'm confused. You mentioned a contractor in a previous post. If you have a contractor why not let him find the parts and do his job?

Yes. I have a contractor. I'm not doing this myself. However, he brought the wrong stuff last time, so the lost time and money and extra frustration I get.
I did ask on here because I have had great experiences with people helping out. I have even chatted with other electrical supply places who have different opinions.
As for your legal advice. Yes all the time :)

That's what makes it so great, to share our specialities with others who do not have the same level of understanding given a certain topic.
I can certainly say that I don't know it all and have no problem helping where I can.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have cause you.

Thank you for clarifying. If I can help let me know. Personally for over 50A I'd go the pin and sleeve route. I like heavy duty.

Ok.. So the contractor called back this am.

Seems there is confusion.

My PTO generator has a female plug in (I haven't seen a different kind), So we would need a male cable plug in from there.

When we get to the house....to plug in.... what should the end of the cord be, and what should the receptacle be on the house?

The contractors says there is a safety concern if both ends of the cable are male.
However.. I am unable to find a 60amp male connector for the receptacle for the house box.

Is this supposed to be so difficult?
A power cable with 2 male ends is commonly called a suicide cable. You often end up with a exposed plug fully energised just waiting for somebody or something to touch it.

Personally I'm in the middle of rewiring my 25-35kw generator from some single pin plugs to Anderson plugs. It's what all the new (not 30 year old at least) Winco generators use. $100 for a "male" & "female" (the actual plugs are gender less) termination set. It was going to be $75 each (need 3 or 4) for new male pin style. The solar guys put in a 100@ female pin & sleeve connector. Male or female is going to be $400-600 each for those... pulling the one they installed & doing another Anderson for the house side too.

Thanks to all who have helped. I appreciate it.
For anyone who goes through the process.. you can see there are different ways, this is the solution which at this time fits my needs.
