Little low in spots, but looks like you have plenty of volume of weld. Doubler plates are always a good idea!

Looking good bud! And thanks for the pics!

I think you are expecting too much of a little mig machine. 1" to 1/2" I would be beveling both sides of the 1" down to a 1/8" land and run 1/8 6010 root and fill out with 5/32 7014. At least 160-180 Amps. Preheat would be of no value. Warping of the 1/2" plate is your biggest problem with the heat generated by the stick welding. If you ask I have a solution to the warping. Show us a cross section of how you plan to weld this with your mig.

7014 for a hyd. cylinder mount? It wouldn't have to be beveled at all as long as it had a 1/2" fillet weld around it. Fillet welds are nice because they are really easy to size. As long as the leg is the same as the thickness of the thinner plate, you will have the strength of the thinner plate, thus a 1/2" fillet weld would suffice. Making it bigger gives an over estimation of strength and is a waste of time and money. If there was no room to put a 1/2" fillet weld, then beveling would be used.

Boy I wish I knew 1/10th of what you guys know about welding. If I welded something like the above, I would be THRILLED to have it look like that.

Stick around, and learn to weld. There are some very knowledgeable weldors here, I learn something everyday! :cool2:

No matter how much you think you know, there's still a ton more to learn. I've learned a boat load of information off of forums like this. Sometimes you run across wannabe's that don't know what they're talking about but usually after a couple posts you realize this. Same thing with looking on the internet, I checked out a site someone posted on the meaning of the numbers on welding electrodes. It was about 75% accurate, which normally would be pretty good, but considering using the wrong information could mess you up, it would be more of a hindrance if you didn't know which part was accurate. Welding Tips and Tricks is an example of a GOOD welding site with a lot of accurate information.

But they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true! ....right?
