1*PS has worked for me.
2*I sure do hate using that stuff each and every time I fill up! And the bottles always leak and that stuff is WAY NASTY! It has stained every vinyl or rubber type material in the back of my truck!
3*If I come across Howes - I'll give it a shot.
AKfish
1*Works for me too.
2*Know what you mean, measuring it out and pouring it through funnels adding it to 5 gallon cans got to be a messey PITA.
Solved that problem when i graduated from 5 gallon cans to a pump and drum set up.
Now I just dump a whole quart bottle in the 55 gallon drum when i go to fill it up.
Hooray no more funnels or measuring cups.
3*I just discovered Howes at the go mart truck stop 2 days ago so i may give it a try sometime.
Trouble is I have 5 quarts of power service on hand.
That is enough to treat enough fuel to last me for 5 years.

Yesterday I used Howes to get my B3030 working right. I took the tractor from the barn and after 2 minutes the engine sputtered and stalled. I started it and the same thing occured. Looking at my fuel sediment bowl it appears the diesel fuel was gelling. Temperatures have been 10 to 30 F and last time I filled the tank was in October. Yesterday the temp was about 32 F.

I could not find any powerco at my local hardware store but found the Howes at a small EXXON minimart gas station. I paid $18.00 for it. I only needed a few ounces so I initially was reluctant to buy it ( only 1 size bottle for sale).

I added 5 ounces and after 1 minute of sputtering the engine started to work normally as good as new. No problem running the tractor after that. I am now a fan of Howes.

Here is a picture of my fuel sediment bowl before HOWES. Does it appear to have gelled fuel or water in it? Is the filter supposed to look gelatinous like this? When taking off the fuel sediment bowl what is the procedure and should I change the filter? The bowl did seem better after running the tractor.

Nik, no reason to change the filter in the sediment bowl unless you experience more problems. The Howe's should straighten out the gelling problem and you will be good to go.

Sincerely, Dirt

I use PS white bottle;3.2 oz per 5 gallon can. Minus(-24F) Friday, minus(-14F) Saturday and never got above +14F degrees while I was sno-blowing Sunday and not a hiccup;see no reason to look elsewhere??

Howe's is good stuff. It's kept my 3510 starting / running in sub-zero temps this winter. I paid $8.99 for the big bottle like yours at the local Farm & Fleet.

The #@*% Mini-Marts really jab you on essentials. I know the local Mobil station gets $3.91 for a gallon of WW Fluid that costs $1.39 on sale at F & F (same brand and strength).

I suppose they gotta eat too. After all, there's no money in selling gas these days...

There are known issues regarding biodiesel. The main problem with the product is the gelling point being higher than plain diesel. Other than this, some people are experiencing issues because the "blenders" are not properly mixing the biodiesel. Biodiesel is also known to have a shorter shelf life that plain diesel. The benefits of bio is that it does burn cleaner, and there are suggested environmental issues too. I don't want to get into the difference between cloud points and gelling, I'll leave that to the experts on the subject.

regarding PS, do some Due Diligence. PS web site states:
Directions:

Add Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost as directed on the container label. Diesel Fuel Supplement should be added to the fuel at a temperature higher than the fuel cloud point. To ensure thorough mixing, add prior to filling tanks with diesel fuel. Store above 10ºF.

Most people (not all) keep their fuel additives and fuel near their tractors. If your tractor is stored in an unheated building, or you keep your bottle in your truck, think about what the temperature is of the bottle and your fuel before mixing.

According to their website, PS has the following Winter Performance Benefits:
Prevents fuel gelling in temperatures as low as -40ï½°F.
Equals the performance of a 50/50 blend of No. 2 and No. 1 diesel fuels
Lowers Cold-Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) as much as 36°F. keeps fuel-filters from plugging with wax
Boosts cetane up to 4 numbers for faster cold starts
Contains anti-icing additives protects against fuel-filter icing

I don't work for them, and I believe they will send me a check for a product endorsement as much as I believe in the tooth fairy.

Here is the link.
Power Service Products, diesel fuel additives, prevent gelling, clean injectors, disperse water, boost cetane, reduce emissions, improve fuel economy

I live in Canada and if they make Howes here I have never seen it in any store here. I have seen it for sale at the local Citgo station "across the river" in Michigan.

The web site suggests the head office is in RI-Howes Lubricator: Contact

I live in the north and it's cold here-seems like it has been -25C all winter with lots of snow. I have used Power Service (white bottle in winter and silver bottle in summer) for years and have never had a problem.

Late last year I bought #2 off-road diesel at that Citgo station in Michigan. It was -15C that day and the fuel poured out like a slushy into my container. I later added Power Service (white bottle) to the fuel as I poured it into my tractor. I never had so much as a one errant sputter from my always smooth running tractor engine. ;)

I am sold on the effectivesness of Power Service:)

I had been buying Power Service at Walmart, but noticed recently that the large bottle, which is supposed to be 96 ounces, is now 80 ounces, for the same price. (Like what happens with the candy bars - the price stays the same but they get smaller). I then checked at NAPA, they still sell the 96 oz. bottle for about the same price as WM. Sometimes it pays to shop around.
