Here in SC Tractor Supply sells the PowerService for less than WalMart...and they still have the 300 gallon bottle where WalMart is the 250.

I know some swear by the PS products. I swear AT IT. Using PS in the white bottle has left me on the side of the road a half dozen times. 2 years ago I switched to "Howes Diesel Treat" and have had no problems since.

Here's a comparison;
Howes is made in Canada where it gets COLD
PS is made in Texas where cold means wearing socks with your sandals
Howes is cheaper than PS white
Howes is Guaranteed to not leave you stranded (has some requirements to prove use)
PS is NOT guaranteed to do anything except drain your wallet
Howes has a pleasant odor
PS - not so much
Howes can reverse gel on a filter (not its prime function, but it does)
PS does not do a dern thang to reverse gel

Naturally, this is my opinion and YMMV

jb

I agree on Howes. Have not and will not use PS. Every gelling thread I have read has always had something like " I used PS, and gelled..."

We have used KLEEN-FLO and have NEVER had a gelling, freeze up issue.

http://www.ezoil.com/Products/Diesel_Aid.html also works great too.

JMHO.

I had been buying Power Service at Walmart, but noticed recently that the large bottle, which is supposed to be 96 ounces, is now 80 ounces, for the same price. (Like what happens with the candy bars - the price stays the same but they get smaller). I then checked at NAPA, they still sell the 96 oz. bottle for about the same price as WM. Sometimes it pays to shop around.
The new bottles are all 80 instead of 96 ounces. I'm not sure if the 96 ounce bottles still out there contain their newer USLD formula or their old formula. TSC stores around here have had the 80 ounce bottles since last summer.

My two cents worth: I mostly use PS in my Dodge because it is relatively cheap and readily available adding about every other tank. Never had a problem with it even while living up north. I have tried plenty of other additives and never noticed any earth shaking differences.

I hang onto the fuel injector cleaner containers that I buy for my gas powered vehicles. After I let them dry out, I set a bunch of them up and pour my diesel additive into them from a measuring cup and a funnel. It sure is easy to grab one of those bottles and dump it in the tank while at the pump rather than fumbling with a jug.

My fuel gauge quit working years ago in the Dodge so I top off around 400 miles on the odometer. I may be plus or minus on the amount that I add but not by much.

My tractor fuel is a different story. My useage can vary so sometimes the fuel sits awhile in my 100 gallon tank. For that application, I use fppf Total Power. fppf makes several different formulas but I never tried the others.

I had an older gent at a former tractor dealership that really knew my older Case very well. He was the one who recommended the fppf to me.

Howes is usually available at most truck stops. Truck stops tend to be pricey but if you happen to get in them regularly, they do have it on special quite often.

I hear plenty of people rave about Stanadyne additives even claiming better mileage. One of these days I need to pick some of that up.

PS makes that 911 version in the red bottle for emergency use. I never had to resort to that myself but I know others that have and they say it got them going again.

Both are for ULSD unless the 96'ers are real old. My 96's are up to date. For clarification, in case anyone didn't figure it out, the 80 ouncers treat 250 gallons and 96 ouncers treat 300, hence my shorthand faux pas about 250 and 300 gallon bottles:eek:

LB, this is what a 300 gallon bottle of Power Service looks like. I have parked my JD6410 near it as a size reference.
