Pole building question

I am thinking of building a pole building for general storage. Mostly for implements I don't want to leave out all winter. I don't need an insulated or heated building and was thinking about just gravel floor. Size wise I was thinking about 24x32 with one 9 foot garage door and a service door. No windows. The area I am thinking about slopes 2-3 feet over the 32' span. My question is can I set the post before the site is leveled and graded. My theory is I can set the post 4 feet deep with my post hole digger than the back full and gravel would essentially make the 6-7 feet deep. Any thoughts?

I think you will find it to be more than a major nuisance to be grading around posts already set.

That. Even if it means you build a retaining wall.

And do have a bldg code? Around here you'd need to have a footing under each post, inspected before backfill. Not a bad idea, even for storage.

Do yourself a favor and make the pad level and compacted completely. I don't think it would get compacted around the poles otherwise.

No building code here. I already checked with the township only thing they care about is the road setbacks. It sounds like I should just get the area prepared first.

Prior proper preparation prevents poor performance.

Couple of things we had a high lift level our pad and really compact it so it shouldn't settle. Second if you do metal I highly recommend insulating the roof or it is going to sweat and drop water on your implements, the bumble wrap to do my 30x40 was an extra 300$ well worth it. I would level, compact then set your posts

I had a couple feet of fill added for my pole shed and had a driveable vibratory roller go aver it a couple times. When I had to dig for some plumbing pipes I had a difficult time shoveling and picking through it. That is a good thing and money well spent.
