Pick WinterDeere's next truck

Hay Dude beat me to it, but I've never lost a hood to rust!

Doors are a good start, but cab, bed and tailgate are all susceptible.

I need to find some time to get out and test drive some stuff, in the coming weeks. This is no emergency project, my truck is fine... but I do want to take care of this before end of summer. Rapidly progressing rust and failing bed tie downs are one thing, but I'm also due to put four new tires on this truck before next winter, and would rather put the $1k+ I'd put toward those into a new truck.

I think I'll check out the aluminum Fords and the latest from Dodge. I don't really see any good reason to add Chevy to the comparison, since I've never had a positive experience with that brand or their local dealers. I'm not a fan of any of the recent Fords I've been in, either... but have to admit the aluminum body is a factor I can't ignore, given I'm trading-in my second very low miles truck due to body rust.
GM really blew it on the auto transmissions by cheaping out on valve bodies and also engines with the recent poor crankshaft machining.
They really ticked off Allison as well. middle of summer and GM was to be barred from using Allison's name- unless on the HD line that actually are Allison transmissions.

Apparently GM has been able to make a new agreement.

I hope Allison forced some changes in the valve body and valve material specification on the newest trucks.

Slapping “Allison” badges on trucks that didn’t have Allisons in them for years is deceitful and pretty much unforgivable.
I was a big fan of their trucks, too.

Yeah and like the truck you posted , Pretty much a known fact that a used 2007 Chevy is likely to run longer without a problem than a 2026.

Interesting New 5.7 and 6.6 sixth gen. 400 and 475 HP (maybe)

Ah, but on paper the 2026 will give you .0246 miles/gallon better than the 07. ;)
Probably right before it spins a rod bearing or locks up, running that expensive 0W - 20 water thin oil.

I really Hope GM has a change of "Heart" and gets back to long lived "Heartbeat of America" and building solid, Reliable, long lived V8's...

RAM is a better company today since the return of Tim Kuniskis to lead the truck brand. Maybe GM needs a similar change.

The weird thing is the 6.2 L87 engines that are having that issue uses the exact same PN rod bearing as the 5.3 that isn't having the problem. 🤷‍♂️

Me, too. Put a lot of miles on GM vehicles years ago.

But they lost me back 15 years ago or so. At least in Nevada, GM corporate bean counters decided to shut down all their dealerships in small rural towns. The two dealerships in the nearest town to me - one sold Chevy, the other GMC/Buick/Cadillac - were forced to shut down. Nevada is a huge state but if you want to buy a GM vehicle in Nevada today you have three locations - the Reno area, the Las Vegas area, and the Elko area. It is 300 miles from Reno to Elko. It is 450 miles from Reno to Las Vegas. Why would someone in rural Nevada want to drive hours to a GM dealer, whether it is to buy or have service work done or take care of a recall?

But just about every small town has a Ford dealer, and many have Dodge dealerships also.
