In the last 2 losses, we walked Ortiz and the next guy hit a homer and a double to essentially win the games in the late innings. He is hot but, based on the odds, should make at least a few outs going forward --- at least that's my story.

To answer your question, if I were the manager I'd pitch to him with no one on base. If someone was on base, I'd give him one of those "intentional, non-intentional walks".

I'd say to pitch to him if you are ahead by two runs and the Sox don't have anyone on base. That way, the most damage he could do is get a home run and you still have the lead. The odds are far more in your favor of his getting a single or double. He's not a base stealer, so having him on base from a single is no worse than having him on base from an intentional walk. You don't have to listen to a gazillion Sox fans booing you at the top of their lungs either.

I second this! I'm a Cards fan and not an Ortiz fan, but I have trouble believing he's juicing.

BTW, juicing gives you more power, but doesn't necessarily make you see the ball better. Ortiz is seeing the ball just like it's a freaking basketball coming at him!

My son that lives in the Boston area used to go time-shares on a small block of season tickets with friends. That's one affordable way to have good seats at a couple games every summer. It's getting too expensive to see the Pats or Sox play for most people but for 10 years, until last year with the idiot manager, the Sox sold out the stadium for every game. It's not a big stadium: 37,400 capacity.

Well, I really didn't expect the Cards to go down without a fight. It's like they left their game in St. Louis.

I think Wacha was nervous and never got settled into his game because I'm sure he can pitch better than that.

I'm not sure I ever seen a runner escape a run-down play in pro ball. Another unusual item in this series.

Yep, I really expected more out of the Cards tonight (the whole series really). It's been a crazy series with odd game-ending plays, lots of errors by both teams, and lackluster play. It just wasn't the year of the Birds on the Bat. Next year...only 5 months away!

Yea, it did seem like Gomes was screwing his helmet on at each at bat. I think it was the sweaty scalp but he didn't do that during the regular season.

I was wondering if he did that during the season. Maybe the lack of hair plus the weather? Did he have hair (other than what was on his face ) during the season? Was wondering if he shaved it for the post season and was trying to get the helmet to feel right.

He shaves whatever hair he does have and sweats almost as much as Youkilis does and I just figured that the helmets were new for the WS and it wasn't fitting as well as the season long one.
