Buying Advice New tractor purchase.

Update:

Dealer called me at about 11:30 am and left me a message on my phone. (He won’t be there, he had told me that already). Representative will be here today at 1pm, not tomorrow. I saw the message at 12:30. Had to quickly get ready and get over to the store. He was getting ready to leave when I got there. I remained calm and told him of all my problems. And all my lost time.

I state in front of all there, including the other folks who work there that I am not unhappy with the mechanic, I’m not unhappy with the dealership. They have been good. This is a Mahindra problem. These folks don’t have control over how the tractors are built and the quality control. And he said okay. Well we have it fixed. He and the mechanic said they did not have the latest software in the computer and he did now and they reflashed it and can’t get the problem to happen again.

Well, I’ve been through this before. So I first asked him what Mahindra was going to do for me about all my lost time. He said he can’t do anything for me, his job is to make sure the tractors are fixed. He can’t do anything else until he talks with Corporate in Texas. Well I need to know what Mahindra is going to do for me. And I said, can you call them right now and explain everything? So he said, I can try. He then goes to his car and attempts to call him. No answer, left message. Mechanic leaves after stating he will get my tractor back to me on Friday. I said that’s my last day off. I won’t be able to do anything again for three more days. So then he agreed to try to get it to me Wednesday.

He then leaves. So I go out and talk with representative some more before he leaves. Explain to him how frustrated I am and that I’m going to leave the tractor in the barn until I hear back from him and what Mahindra Corporate is going to do for me. He says I need you to go out and work your tractor so you and I can see that it is working properly now.

So I said how long do you have? Can I pull the tractor out here right now and work it for a while. He said sure you can. We go back in the store and he opens the overhead and I bring it out. He stands there while I work it. After about 7-8 minutes of a combination of driving it back and forth and using loader and backhoe hydraulics I get it to do it again. Loss of power anytime I try to do something with anything hydraulic related.

So I say to him. Now imagine he brought the tractor back to me and I don’t use it until I need it. We get a big snow storm and after about 7-8 minutes I’m left with no power, limp mode. Okay, but I don’t think it’s limp mode. We have some troubleshooting to do.

So I told him that I don’t want to bash all Mahindra tractors. Just this one. This one has spoiled me on this tractor. I don’t want it. And I said I really appreciate you coming here and really need you to do something about this. He said understands my frustration and he would fight for my cause by talking with Corporate.

I talked with him about either buying the tractor back or possibly getting me a different tractor. Please see what you can do for me. But I have lost way to much time with this tractor and I can’t get it back. My projects are now delayed until next summer.

Then I talked with about his Thanksgiving plans and family etc. And I said I will let you go and get on the road. We wished each other a Happy Thanksgiving and said good by.

So now I wait, again, with no tractor for my days off, to see what comes next.

I would LIKE to believe that they will take the tractor back, and give your money back.
Unfortunately I think it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that they will.
They MIGHT possibly offer an exchange, but I doubt that as well.
Besides: Who would want another Mahindra after what you have been through?

May I please be wrong but it sounded like he had been through this before and was giving evasive answers.

Can you imagine being a traveling Mahindra dealer rep?! That might be one of the worst jobs I can think of!

Who was giving evasive answers? The rep?

To me, it just seemed like the rep was not being direct in offering some conclusive set of options, especially after it failed in the yard. He's the guy that has the power to fix things and he didn't off a set of options. I've been wrong before so maybe all will be OK.

Well. At the beginning of the conversation I told him of all the tractor problems. And how much time I have lost on my projects.

I then said, after telling him I don’t have a problem with the mechanic or dealership, that I go to work everyday and do my job. And I just need him and the dealer to do their job and make things right for me, the customer. He interjected when I said I do my job and said, and that’s the job you chose. (This irked me to say the least.) And I said, yes. You are correct. And you chose yours. He then said yes. And my job is to make sure all the tractors in my area are fixed and running right. And I just came here and fixed your tractor. And i said I expect you and the dealer to do your jobs and make things right to me.

I then separated that issue and told him I still expected Mahindra to do something for me to make up for all my lost time and that this tractor has been unreliable at best. That it has been down more days than I have been able to work it. He said he would talk to Mahindra corporate for me. I then decided to see how the tractor performed.

When I got it to lose all power, I revved up the RPMs and showed him how the engine RPMs would go right in the toilet by just trying to curl the bucket on the loader. And anytime I tried to do anything that involved hydraulics.

I felt like saying nice job you did there fixing my tractor. But I didn’t. Instead I said now imagine they had returned my tractor to me and I didn’t use it until I needed it. And then this. Imagine how frustrating that would be after you had spent that kind of money.

And you sir kept your cool and in a classy great way just rubbed his face in the dirt on that one. Not that he was being a prick, I won't assume not being there, but he did have to eat his words.

Good job sir!

The rep has someone to answer to also. I hope they satisfy Gasifier. I doubt they will buy it back but they may put him in a new tractor. Mahindra needs to step up and I hope they do so as much as he’s been through and still keeps his cool , he deserves it.

OK

I'd suggest you give Mahindra corporate time to respond. Like a week max.

In the meantime star looking for a consumer affairs lawyer.
One that wants to make a name for himself.

Get ready to retain a lawyer and start the biggest lawsuit he can think of. Lost time emotional duress. I know what it is like. Often one letter on his letterhead to corporate gets you a new tractor without the lawsuit. Sad it has to work this way.

I gave this suggestion weeks ago and learned that Gassifer does not have any documentation to back up his claim.

I suggested he start doing things the official way and get work orders with all the info on it every time the dealer touches the tractor.

Upon following both his threads on this, even after meeting with the rep today, he does not have a single work order copy that has his info and complaints on it.

He would have to find a very hungry lawyer to start a case with no documation whatsoever.

I mean no disrespect to Gassifer. It is just frustrating as a reader to hear what he is going through and know that the dealer is not even giving the man a receipt of work being done.
Gassifer likes the dealer, but to me the dealer is taking advantage of that "like"
