New Send to Friend Feature

Greetings, Users!

Today we added a feature to allow you to send a post to a friend - you will find the 'Send to Friend' button to the left of the 'Reply' button when viewing in flat or threaded mode! Try it out and let us know how you like it!

On my screen the send to a friend button is huge, colored, and right next to the buttons that I use regularly. It is a neat idea, but friends that own tractors that don't frequent this board, that I know their e-mail address are kinda scarce. You might consider making the button the same size and b/w as reply and moving it away from the reply button. Just a thought. Get a software tester reading your stuff and they just complain. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Now let me have a button with the capability of going directly to the message from the main menu when there is only one new sub-topic without going through the interim set of screens loading and I will shout from the roof tops.

I could use that about 20 times a login. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

OK, Wen, I don't know anything about software testing, but the "send to friend" button is not unusually large or a different color, etc. on my screen. What gives?

And Muhammad, looks another neat feature to me.

It now says send to a friend. When it first came on it was just a colored blob with no visible writing for what it was. You could touch it with a cursor and see what it did. It seems to be working find now. I have no idea why it appeared that way on my screen when it first started. I have used that feature many times on news stories on the web, so I sincerely realize how handy it could be.

Wen, you must have either looked at the images during the short window that there was a little bug I had to fix, or before I made a matching image.

Yeah, little bugs show up from time to time. It sure went away fast, though. Nice feature as are all features on this board.

I accidentally hit the send to friends key instead of reply and my first thought was that the random logout but was back, but it wasn't. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Another bug that seems to have popped up in the meantime is that I'm getting two copies of each reply to one of my posts e-mailed to me.

Hi Mark,

I am NOT having the same problem, on a PC with IE5. I have sent 4 test e-mails, so don't know what the problem is. Are you using IE or Netscape? Mac or PC?

Make sure you are not accidentally hitting the send key more than once. It does take a few seconds for the sendmail to go thru. If you hit it twice, two will get sent. Just hit the send key, and wait until it brings up the "your message has been sent" screen.

Bob - It's not my posts that's causing the problem. It's when someone else replies to one of my posts, as you did in your response to my message initially reporting the problem. I received two copies of your message in my e-mail.

The question is, if you have the option that e-mails replies to your posts turned on, do you get two copies of this message in your e-mail?

Yep, Mark, I'm getting the double e-mail replies, too, the last couple of days. I was just about to send Muhammad a message to ask if it was my computer or his when I found your message. And I'm using IE5.

Ooops! Sorry Mark. I thought we were talking about doubles of the send mail to friend. I gotcha' now.

I will turn on the reply e-mail on this, and see if it doubles me. But if Bird is getting the same behavior, seems like a bug. Muhammad will pick up on this.

The first double e-mail message I received was on Friday 6/27 at 2:27 pm. They have all been double since then. I assumed that it was my a network retransmission, but it appears to be only from tractorbynet.

The e-mails are sent as plain text, so none of that will show. My signature simply leaves a reference to the URL so /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif for me too! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
