I can't remember where I read the story and don't know how they got their information, but I once read that if you designed your own home exactly the way you wanted it, you would have to design and build 7 before you got one that you were completely satisfied with. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

What's really neat about a 'white house' /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, it's like starting with a blank canvas. They remind me of early Americana.

I like the rich, red colored door. A colored sidewalk could be used to draw the eye in.

White houses lend themselves to patriotic themes...... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

For a more subtle effect. A natural colored sidewalk. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Bmac, Is their plans for a circular drive?

TBDonnley,
Youa ae a hoot! Love, jsut LOVE the rooster weather vein. Hope Bmacs wife puts that on his Christmas list. It is GREAT!!!!!!

/ New Home Construction #645
all right, I wasn't gong to ask but now that you have added the weather vein, if you still feel like having fun, could you kindly add window boxes under the windows on the wings and fill the window boxes with pink gereniums? The window boxes should be the same color as the shutters, that match the brick.

Also what would you think fo a nice marten (martin) house on a pole some where in your green grass? Might not work would have to see it. I totally will understand if you are getting tired of the game....

/ New Home Construction #646
Ok Rox, Here goes...

I didn't have gereniums, so I used amaryllis's. I also did not have a Marten bird house however....I substituted an ostrich instead. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Uh....TB? I don't think that's a purple martin. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Almost wet my pant and had to run to the bathroom when I saw the ostrich. Came back and am still belly laughing as I write this.

Too bad you couldn't find pink geraniums, but I guess with the ostrich on the lawn it kind of takes your eye away from what color flowers are in the window boxes.

BMAC, now you know we are all jsut having fun, with all the serious help we have offered in these many months you surley won't bgrudge us a little 'ole (well in fact a rather large) ostrich will you?

I would prefer an emu. And, no cats - I just got rid of 2 (humanely, of course).

Don, with the patriotic theme going on, could you change this scene to a night sky and put in some 4th of July fireworks?

See, rox, I'm having fun with this as well.

Emu /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, Fireworks /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif....surely you jest! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Man, that's a big rooster. And it levitates! How scarey is that?

Merely an illusion. Pretty good. Huh? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

OK, I borrowed this idea from one of eddie's pictures.... put some accent pieces over the windows. Might be a tad much...or.....it could just be the fireworks. The 'emu' has wondered off. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Don,

Bmac, Is their plans for a circular drive?

In the original architectural rendering, there was a circular drive. Once the house was started, it seemed to me that a circular drive would have consumed too much of the front yard. Due to lot boundaries and huge ravines, I couldn't easily just cut down more trees keep a circular drive from being a bit overpowering. So, even before the budget dried up, we deleted it from the plans. Which is good, because as it is I've cut my concrete budget by 60%. No way would we have been able to do the circle thing.

Bird,

if you designed your own home exactly the way you wanted it, you would have to design and build 7 before you got one that you were completely satisfied with.

I've heard that same figure.

bmac,

I'm sorry to hear there's no plans for a circular drive. I just worked up a design with a circular drive and what I thought would be a great addition. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If there's any of these idea's you would like to see put together or have any other idea's just let me know. If I can put it together, I will.

Don

PS: Sorry Rox. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Progress report. Busy day at the ol' homestead today. The concrete for the parking pad, sidewalk and a short, stubby driveway was poured. My builder said they delivered 48 yards.

Most of the appliances were installed. The electricians and plumbers tried to finish things up. We found a couple of mistakes this evening. There is a minor light fixture issue and the faucet for the main kitchen is the wrong one. This faucet problem is the most aggravating. I think I mentioned that the plumber broke the 1st faucet during installation so they had to re-order it. It remained on back order for some time. Now that it was reinstalled, we noticed that it is the wrong one. Actually, it is the right style but the wrong finish. This should have been easily seen as there is an identical faucet on the small sink and they clearly do not match. However, other than a delay, this is an easily correctable problem.

Trim carpenters back tomorrow and the closet folks are supposed begin thsir installation tomorrow as well. Carpet on Friday.

I'll get some pictures soon, probably Friday.

Took several pictures today. Alot of repetition in some areas(different views of the same stuff). I guess I'll start with the closets. All of the built-ins were completed last week. First photo is the wife's closet. Keep in mind that these are small rooms and getting a good perspective is impossible with my camera. I know, excuses, excuses. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
