I know it's a little strange to reply to yourself but I wanted to let you know that it appears my issue may have been "operator error"

I'll throw out a reply to my problem, too. I won't call it operator error, but it appears to be working now.... I can press the arrow button next to a topic and get taken to the first reply I haven't read.

I am wondering if this feature not working for me before had something to do with me accessing the forum from different computers. It didn't used to be a problem with the old format, but it may be with the new one.
I'll have to see tomorrow when I can check the forum from another pc.

I found that in kubota buying forum. Threads marked new that had no new posts and threads with new posts at the end but pushing the "new posts" botton brought me to the beginning not the end.:(

I was one whose password was not accepted so I had to get a new one and reconfigure my profile. I wonder if that's related?
I had to do the same.. re-logion.. new password.. etc.

Here's a new one. Say you are reading a thread that is 4 pages long.. on t he 2nd page you reply to somebody... it then pops you up at the end. At that point.. you can not use the aroow button to view the 'first unread' which would have been back on page 2 somewhere......

For instance.. this 7+ page thread.. I made a reply.. and now I have to go back and sift thru those pages to see where I left off...

Wow.. just went to the chinese forum... It showed -every- message as being a new one with replies. Ironically.. reading the thread showed it had not been updated in a week.. and when using the 'first unread' button.. I'd be taken to a message that was before a reply of my own.. ... Clearly the last read, and the 'posts with new messages' are going to need some work...

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.
I get this message in my emails for Forum replies. Why does it not send all the replies to a forum like the old system? Is there a setting that I have not set correctly?

Yeah, I had the same thing until I went in to the forums I read and marked them all read. Now it seems to work like before.

Just curious: Is there any way to change the default colors of the forum pages? I used a very nice color scheme with different shades of oranges and yellows and browns (kind of Kubota colors) with the old software. No big deal if there isn't a way. Over all I like the new software very much. Thanks!

Duber

All this talk of new features, etc. and it turns out to be the same forum software used by thousands of other websites.

Very nice job Muhammad and Ibrahim. The site loads much faster now. Takes a little while to get used too but I like the simplicity of it. Still a few things I can't find but change is good (most of the time).
Still having a little trouble with the search engine. For instance, I tried searching for the term "Paint" and again for the term "grey" in the Kioti Owning/Operating forum. It only got one hit back in 2000. I was trying to find a recent post where the poster mentioned the color he used to match the Kioti grey. Nothing came up on that search but the one old post.

Muhammed,

Now that you have given us the same UI for the initial pages, we are all familiar with that, I must say I do like the news software.

I am not using the plain text box to enter my replies, can't think of the name of what I'm suing but it is actually quite nice. I can see much more of what I have written and am more inclined to go back and fix my typos.

I miss seeing how many new replies there were in a thread I previoulsy viewed but the new layout is better. So there are some ++ some --- but overall I do like the new software. Just took me a bit of getting used to.

I'm am going to try changing my font and see what happens. Tried the indenting, now Bold

 The features will still be new to TBN. The fact that these 'new features' have been in place on thousands of other websites running vBulletin is, well, irrelevant. :)

We made the decision to use VBulletin as our base forum software because it was one of the only available programs that can handle a forum of this size.

We were using a version of the former software that was about three years old. We were unable to keep up to date, because we had so heavily modified the base code that it was extremely problematic to re-write the whole program every time we wanted to add something or do an upgrade.

VBulletin has a very robust community of users, and there are literally more than 1,000 "tweaks" that are available for the base software. We will be adding on such modifications as time goes on.

Once people get accustomed to the new forum operations over the next couple of weeks, I feel confident everyone will agree that this change was in the best interests of our users. It definitely will not only save us hundreds of hours of essentially needless coding, provide a very secure environment, but most importantly, will allow us to add many more enhancements than we could have done without it.

As this new SW is what is being used on several other sites I frequent, it feels comfortable to me.

Hope at some point you add in a spell check and smilies.

Oh, what is the limitations you've set for attachments?

I'll give it that! Unless they put all those moving commercials back on :(

My find unread post button appears to be working on all PCs, now, but now I can't insert an emoticon in my reply... minor I suppose.

Oh, I see... you have to type the emoticon you want to use. You can't "check it" or it puts it up with the thread name. Hmmm...

Freds, if you change to Enhanced Editor you can add emoticons by clicking the one(s) you want ;):D:)

Thanks for the heads up. They were working yesterday I thought, but then yesterday the unread replies arrow wasn't working. I haven't done anything except open the forum and read a few threads....
Now.... to look for this 'enhanced editor' you speak of....
May as well see if I can figure out how to add a pic.

Testing

Shoot. That didn't work. I'll have to find the instructions.

Freds go to your Control panel. Then click on Edit Options. Then down at the bottom is how you change the Interface Editor. Change it to Enhanced Editor. Now when you reply you have to option to add smilies/emoticons

I am pretty new to the forum, but from the beginning I have experienced difficulty in getting back to the forum after posting in a thread. This posting penalty is really bothering me. Now it has reached the point where I completely back out of the website and reenter in order to get the system to respond. Is this common? Is there some secret way around it? Im going to send and suffer now.

Is there a way to make the "View First Unread" feature automatic as soon as you enter a thread (see photo)? When I open a thread I would like to go directly to the first of the newest entries in the post like it used to in the old software. I know I can click the "View First Unread" button, but if I can save an extra click I may live a little bit longer. Thanks!
