Need help deciding on a grapple

Interesting. However, I bet it is quite expensive and as it doesn't take the stump out there is the issue of regrowth or if the tree dies then potential potholes for horses or cattle to fall in. I can see it might be useful for someone clearing acres of small trees but think just a FEL mounted grapple would be less money and a grapple plus backhoe ripper would be more flexible with bigger trees.

Correct on all points. Also, not good for large trees that can topple back onto the tractor or jam the blade.

Yeah, i sure wouldn't want to use that thing on a 40ft tree and depend on an open grapple jaw to keep the tree from falling on my head.

I ended up ordering the Titan 60" root grapple. It's being dropped shipped to the dealer and due in Monday. They're going to hook it up and make sure everything works before delivering my 5740 Tuesday or Wednesday. I bought a bucket as part of the "package", but probably won't removed the grapple unless I sell my 4300 or decide to add a snow blade to the 5740.

Great! Did you get the single lid LW model or the two lid? Either way, you will like the grapple. Is your 4300 equipped to accept the grapple as well?

I was using my grapple yesterday and got this huge pick. I don't know if I would grab so much at once with a brand new tractor, but I had a lot to get done. I used an older 60 HP backhoe tractor non cab on this one. That's no little BX under there. I had to climb out of the load to snap this picture.

I have a bunch of pictures like that too. I'm always amazed when people question the ability of a 48" grapple to grab a big load of brush. My problem is usually that I cannot see where I am going with a full load and have to raise it up so I can peak underneath to see my way.

It's the two lid, dual cylinder. The 4300 has a pin on bucket, so no. It will be bucket only, rough cutting as needed.

Nice load.

Actually that happened to be my 74" L bottom with a 46" opening and dual lids. It can grab a little more, but mainly I like it when I am clearing a swath. Interestingly, I use the lightweight 48" L bottom with single lid when I am picking up heavy loads or want accurate picks or digging. The load grabbing ability when grabbing brush is similar between the two L bottom grapples. Both are far superior to a Rake grapple for moving debris. The Rake is far superior when grubbing shallow roots. I think I have it all covered, but not as thoroughly as xfaxman. No one can compete with him.
