I think I would just double up the plywood sheathing so you had 1” of material to work with. You could then use 1” roofing nails and be fine. I used T111 as a first layer of sheathing on a screen porch in a similar situation to give a nice interior finish to the ceiling if that is important.

I made a porch that I wanted to have the nails hidden. I increased the spacing on the rafters and used 3/4 ply.

Nails be gone!
