The company that hired me hired me to operate its flagship tractor, an M135X, with many buttons (they liked my videos). Sadly, something in that M135X has shelled (and with only 1200 hours on it too), so last night I jumped into a "little" Kubota M9540. I took the Kubota M9540 through its paces plowing show and then was called to finish clearing a commercial lot downrange after another tractor had a problem. On its own, the Kubota M9540 is more powerful, and weighs about 1,000 pounds more than my NX6010. However, since it has no ballast in its wheels like I do with my NX, it's ride quality was poor in comparison and it feels bouncy.

Sound proofing in the cab is comparable between the M9540 and my Kioti NX series, whereas the sound proofing in in Kubota's larger M135 field tractors is superior. Frame wise, the Kubota M9540 is a direct competitor to Kioti's PX9020.

sort-of......except the Kioti weighs a lot more and lifts more.

He never said anything about weight or hydraulics, just noted that in HP and frame, they are competitors.

After shopping for an industrial box scraper that will work with my standard SpeeCo Cat 2 Quick Hitch, I picked up a 2014 Frontier BB4284H box scraper from the Deere dealer in Bell Plaine, Minnesota this week. A trip up north to fetch my dump trailer and got the box scraper moved up to my lake place in Northern Minnesota. Since my tractor isn't on site (it is at my sister's place over near, Menahga), I left the blade in the back of my dump trailer. I'm pretty certain that this Frontier is made by Gannon as frontier had a BB1284 that looked just like Gannon's own HB84. The Frontier BB4284H has modified the center tower and Cat 1/2 pins in order to be able to use a Cat 2 Quick Hitch.

I cannot wait to put the new blade to use making roads! Since there is little info out there about this blade, I'll do a video review of it after I've used it to make stuff.

Since I was up there and I have endless piles of brush stacked up all over, I then figured I had three hours to kill before the meat raffle began at the social club, and so I chased over to the new place and made a fire and fed the fire from one of my many bush piles for three hours while my two dogs free ranged and the horses in the field next to me watched.

Before.

After.

I then chased into Nevis for the meat raffle, where I received conflicting messages.

Did you ever get a new box blade back from everything attachments? I assume there is a story there since you bought this frontier.

Everything Attachments was wonderful! They gave me a choice: either a complete refund or wait for my original blade to get the design upgrades that came about from my discovery. My understanding is that EA has changed the way the scarifiers are held to eliminate the peening issue I discovered scraping freezing ground and found a domestic manufacturer of stronger scarifiers. Which is to say that EA was Johnny on the spot to address the weakness in the design that only people scraping frozen ground would encounter!

Anyway, EA was generous with me in their offer and I was hoping that they would have a hydraulic scarifier box scraper ready to go early in the season. From talking to Travis, I couldn't get a hard date but a May timeframe is what EA is shooting for, and I was comfortable with that until I learned about the 2015 tax increases. In 2015, the taxes on my income are going to jump over 250%. Considering that I already live in the second highest taxed state in the Union, I realized that I need to sell my city house as soon as possible, and in order to do that I need to clear more land and put in footings for a container to hold my household stuff as soon as possible. In other words, I couldn't afford to wait until May to begin working and so I took EA's generous offer of a full refund and began looking for other solutions in earnest.

All to say that my situation changed, and EA went above and beyond anything I expected. I expect I'll be knocking on their door for more stuff in the future.

They sound like stand up guys. Might have to deal with them myself when I'm ready.

In anticipation of waging a war against deer ticks so that I can free range my dogs this year at the new place, I've purchased a Chapin 61900 commercial backpack sprayer to lay down four gallons of tick-killing concentrate.

Amazon.com : Chapin 61900 Tree/Turf Pro Commercial Backpack Sprayer SS Wand, 4-Gallon : Compression Sprayers : Patio, Lawn & Garden

The best price I've found for deer tick killer is this place: Permethrin SFR - Permethrin 36.8% Concentrate Insecticide

I'd like to use some sort of vehicle-mounted sprayer system, but the ticks seem to thrive along the shoreline, where I haven't been able to do any clearing.

As part of a two-pronged attack, I'm going to carpet bomb with the backpack sprayer as well as throw out 200 tick tubes. Tick tubes are just old TP rolls with some treated cotton balls in them. The theory is that the mice, which are the number one spreader of deer ticks, will nab the cotton and haul it off to their little dens. The treated cotton kills the tick mites on the mice before they molt into deer ticks, and any deer ticks that are on the mice before they molt into adult ticks.

And so my plan goes according to mice and men.

I like the idea of tricking the mice into doing some work for you. Lets hope the cotton balls don't end up in your tractors intake.

How long have you been saving toilet paper rolls for this project?
