My First New Holland

Took the plunge today and bought a TC35A with a 16LA FEL. Dealer had to order the FEL and bucket so I should get it either later this week or early next week. Wanted a backhoe but just could not justify spending that much for what little I would use it. I'll just rent one. Have a few questions. I have a 5 foot United Heavy Duty box blade, not sure of the weight, will that be enough for ballast in back for the FEL or do I need to weld a suitcase weigh bar to add weights on the box blade?

Any other TC35 owners out there that can offer any tips and tricks?

Congrats on the TC35. I have a much smaller tractor, so I can't comment on the weight for the back.

Randy my Class III still gets a little nose heavy with 950 pounds of cast iron on the backside and a full bucket of wet dirt when traveling. You just need to take it easy when you're really making the New Holland work and keep your mind on your present task. And when in doubt or if you get in trouble go to float immediately to drop the load before things get further out of hand.

When I have a load my right hand is always on the joystick just in case.....

I don't know what the box weighs, but remember that you need to multiply it's weight by 1.5 to give you the effective weight at the rear axle. This is due to the moment arm of the rear loader arms places the center of gravity of the box blade behind the rear axle. And example would be a 500 pound box would be equilavent to 750 pounds wheel weights or tire load. I don't have a TC, but all my previous 10 & 20 series Ford's specified that the effective rear axle weight (tire weights, tire load & effective 3 pt hitch implement weight) equal what you were trying to lift in the loader.

Don't forget that the cheapest rear ballast you can have is loaded rear tires, especially if you have industrial tires. I'd have the dealer load the rear tires before buying weights and see how the tractor handled. It made a huge difference on my tractor. With just the loader, the boxblade and rear tires loaded is plenty. If you get pallet forks or some other loader attachment that sticks out further than a bucket, you may need additional ballast.

I found on mine with just the box blade, I still needed more rear weight. Added two 60lb weights inside the box blade that set at the back of the box. Helped alot. I'm getting ready to add two more that should really keep it settled down. Could load the tires, but I don't want all that weight when mowing.
The biggest problem I have are little rocks and a little bit of slope. Every thing will be going good, front tire(one side) go over a small rock without any problems and then the rear tire starts over and the whole tractor leans - known as the pucker factor..... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I called the dealer and he said he forgot to ask me if I wanted the tires filed. He's going to load the tires for $75 dollars and they are industrial tires. I want ever be using a pallet fork so like you stated with the tires filled and the box blade that should be enough ballast for me and the work I will be doing.

I want ever be using a pallet fork -- Randy - I hope you got a quick attach on that fel .... you made me flashback with the statement you won't ever need to use pallet forks ..... Hi Mike,

I looked at all the attachment for the quick attach FEL and saw nothing I will ever have a need for. I'm not a farmer, just a guy who has a wife wanting her hubby to make the place look like a golf course. LOL I just want to get the property cleaned up so I can do all the mowing with my Dixon ZTR mower. Once I finish I will sell the tractor.
