Thanks Charlie. I think that explains it for me and there is certainly no need for me to work at a greater than 25 degrees for any length of time. The rear slope behind my house is the one that I was worried about. it ranges from 15-25 degrees in different areas. I was mowing that side ways with an 8 wheel Ventrac 4000, then 4200 with no problems. I would not attempt this with the 425, but would not have a problem going down the hill while mowing.

The actual time decending the hill is probably 10-15 seconds per swipe and then I am back on level ground.

Switching to synthetic oil would give you a little extra margin. Then add the oil pressure light and sound alert.

My goal is to do so little damage to the engine that it last a long time.
