MF3165 Alternator Type

I have a Mf3165 and I want to change to an alternator from the old Generator. Can anyone tell me what alternator and how to wire it up?

6 pr 12 volt genny? If it's a 6 volt, you will have to add a dropping resistor or change the entire system over to 12 volt. I'd suggest a one wire alternator the fits in the provided mount with a drive pulley that matches what you already have.

Then any single wire alternator that will physically meet the dimensions and correct sheave size will fit.

Only difference between a single wire and multiple wire alternators is, a single wire will be internally regulated, a multi wire requires external regulation.

Yo will need to remove the external regulator (and there will be one) for the generator. Usually mounted on the generator itself.

I have always used ac delco for them cheap and readily available you can use the one wire self
Exciting or the three wire with plug
Just have to run a wire from key or oil pressure switch to excite alt
Tractor is almost as old as I am

Probably a good idea as there are a of imported (as in Chinese) alternators on the internet and far as I'm concerned, most all of them are suspect. I'm a Delco person as well

the most popular alternators people switch to is a Delco 10si-se which is a one wire internal regulator alternator. I seen manufactured brackets for switching over to alternators on a MF135 on Ebay yesterday. their running around $35 bucks. looks like their all over ebay
