mf 1240 won't start

my mf 1240 won't start; the solenoid that moves the lever on injector pump does not move to run positiion when key is moved to on. any ideas on how to trouble shoot the solenoid? Thanks

Disconnect the solenoid and take an ohmmeter reading across the coil- should indicate conductivity (1-1000 ohms depending on coil size). You can also use a power supply (batter charger will work in a pinch, use low current setting) across the coil and see if the actuator moves when you apply a voltage.

Also don't forget to check the fuses.

When you turn the key on, do you hear a pulsing noise?

I replaced the fuel shutoff solenoid and the tractor starts every time. I did hear a noise which I thought was the fuel pump. Thanks for the reply. Cork
