Methods to Smooth Rough Field Surface

Just finished mowing the 5 acre field in front of our house using a tow-behind mower. The field surface is very rough and the ride was jarring to say the least. Felt like my kidneys were bruised by the time I was finished.
I don't plan to do much with this field other than mow it. What would be the best way to smooth it out a bit? I'm not looking to make it putting green smooth. What implements would I want to beg, borrow or rent?
I plan on upgrading to a 6 foot mower soon, either flail or rotary. The plan is to keep the grasses down to about 3-4 inches. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Morning, This has been asked before but it seems not to this large an acreage. I have about 10 acres of corn field on a property I recently purchased that I would like to try to start farming. I have the agronomy background and large farm experience to do the job, but this will be my first time...

Hey jeff9366, thank you for these links. Should give me plenty of reading to do on the subject. Not sure what I did wrong, but when I searched for previous threads these didn't come up. This forum is always so helpful.
