First thing I did when I got my tractor was order a handful of spare keys. I have them all over the place just in case.

I managed to lose my key while I was driving the tractor. It's still out there in the field, somewhere. The dealer charged me $5.50 for two new ones, and she gave me a Kubota-orange key ring to hang them from, just so I wouldn't do that again.

Aren't all Kubota keys the same/interchangeable?

NOPE, I have 3 and each one takes a different key.

I think the are all the same such as for a B or BX

Several people use our tractors, so we always buy extra keys and just about everybody loses one from time to time; well except for me of course.:)

I sure wish they were all the same, but they aren't.

Just curious about how you obtain your spare keys.

Some folks mentioned going to the dealer -- do they have a database that allows them to match keys with the tractor serial # if there are different keys for the same model? Or do you have to have a key that they can match?

Do locksmiths/hardware stores have blanks that allow duplication of tractor keys? I'm guessing that the answer is "It depends."

You've got me worried, but I'm prone to worry. I'm going to acquire some extra keys.:)

I think there is more than 3. My B21 and B2701 have different keys. My old M4700 (traded), M5040, and M9540 have different keys. Maybe there are a half dozen keys across the line in the past decade. But yes, they are common keys and that's standard for the industry.

I've ended up with a few extra keys from the dealer, free of charge.

I ran into a different problem this summer. After dropping off my tractor for a jobon a saturday, when I arrived, I realized I forgot the key. Had to drive back home for it. Lost 1 hours worth of work.

I went to the dealer and got some spare keys that I now keep in my 2 vehicles in case this happens again.

For a Model, it's the same exact key... and that same key may be used on several different models. I think only kubota sells them, I don't think a locksmith has "blanks".

What teg said and this goes across brands as we have John Deere, Kubota, Case. Our BX and M keys look the same while our L5030 looks like a car key. Our locksmith has blanks, but costs more than the dealer.

Thanks. I'm off next week to my dealers (Kubota and NH).
