You can get 'cheater' lenses for most welding hoods today and I don't see that well either but I do with the cheater lens in my auto dark hoods. I've also started to put a high intensity Halogen work light shining on my work piece. I like TIG, especially using a clear Pyrex cup on the torch. You can see right through them unlike an alumina cup. Only issue with a Pyrex clear cup is you cannot 'walk the torch' when doing TIG whereas you can with an alumina cup. I usually use the Pyrex cup in conjunction with a fine gas diffuser nozzle.
I have 2.5 diopter cheaters in a AD hood, have headlamp on hood to light work, and sometimes use halogen work light for ambient light source..... Problem being is with my cataract surgery I cannot always see the line I am trying to weld.... The arc flair from the MIG create a light ball around weld line and I lose it... Funny thing is I can almost see good on a 90° joint but really loose it on a flat butt joint... Yes I have tried various ways to help identify line to weld by highlight with white paint stick marker and several other tricks, but overall I still have problem seeing the puddle and keeping it where I want it to go.... Then there was the incident at a TIG welding demonstration, I manages to "ball" the end of the tungsten 3 times and it was a message.... You can't do it.... Old eyes and cataract surgery just don't work as well as they used to...

Had both of my peepers done about 3 years ago and it was caused by the chemo I was on, been on chemo now for just under 7 years. My cancer is inoperable but it's kept at bay with those chemicals. If it wasn't, I'd be pushing up daisies right now. Just got done with another infusion on Tuesday and I wear an infusion pump for 2 days every time and I just got that off. All the infusion nurses at the hospital I go to refer to me as the 'legend' because I've managed to keep it under control for 7 years now. It's taken it's toll on me but I'm still here, still running hay and still enjoying my time here on earth though I know at some point it will get me. I just want to postpone it as long as possible. Just lost a good friend to stomach cancer and my niece isn't going to last much longer either, she had breast cancer and it spread to her brain. I'll be going to a funeral very soon I suspect. She has Hospice now. Probably loaded with morphine too. Only 45 and never been married. Staying at her mom's house because she cannot take care of herself anymore.

All I can say is I'm thankful I have excellent hospitalization, if I didn't, I'd be living in a cardboard box, under some bridge. Every time I have an infusion which is every 2 weeks, it's 5 grand and the Pet scans they give me to track what is going on are 15 grand each and that don't include all the scrips I have to take. Least my scrips only cost 5 bucks each. Least we are financially set and have been for a long time. We own a working farm that is paid for and 3 rental properties plus I own and operate a machine and fabrication shop. We both have substantial retirements. Not hurting for money at all, thank the Lord for that. really, my only worry is staying alive and when I go to bed each night I say a silent prayer and ask for yet another day.

The one thing that irritates me is I lost ALL my hair early on and it's never come back. I have no hair anywhere and haven't for years and being 1/4 American Indian I had beautiful coal black hair and I kept it long too. It all fell out and never came back. Oh well, I can trade life for the hair any day....

I have no issues with either of my replacement lenses. No starburst, no nothing except driving at night is a pizzer. The oncoming headlights tend to blind me so I only drive in the daytime now.
