Lean-to Post Bases

With the bases you have ordered i would make sure you use 12" tubes. The 12" will make it more user friendly when it comes time to laying out your post bases. A little more room for error. You can use a J bolt to anchor your bases but you need to make sure everything is in line. You do have some play with the slots in the base but not much. Or pour your tubes wait for them to set then snap a line from one end to the other and this will allow you to locate your post bases right on the money. Hammer drill your concrete and install wedge anchors(red devils). Which ever one you pick will be fine for what your doing. Have fun with your project.

Another thing, not sure if a footing was mentioned but with frost to deal with this will be THE most important part of a good solid structure. I like bigfoots with about 3 or 4 lengths of rebar in it. But you could also build a form then pin rebar in concrete from form to sonotube. Frost has a tougher time lifting the shape of bigfoots however.... Good luck, do it once and right.

I havent heard that.

Any reason as to why? Got a link?

I would think the bolt would break long before it would pull out. Especially looking at all the other types of concrete fasteners out there, I would think an L bolt would be the weakest.

Google. L-Bolt Anchor Bolt

I didnt see them give a reason for them to be discontinued? Wonder if it is for structural reasons? Or because (IMO) there is really no need to carry and sell both J-bolts and L-bolts?
